Is spending thousands for an additional month or two with your pet worth it for you?

The local vet in Sutter Creek CA will refer out in a simple case involving an oral/nasal fistula which any competent vet. tech. should be able to do for a very reasonable charge. But instead my local vet told me that in the event my dog needed the fix she would refer me to a specialist. And, I might add that I strongly suspect that each and every such referral comes with a kickback to the referring vet. I've lived here in Amador County for 35 years and I cannot believe what has happened over those years in regards to vet. care. The local vets who used to take calls at night now direct them to an emergency clinic over an hour away that will charge a couple of hundred or more to see them. Getting an appointment with a local vet takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks in most cases. It's all about the $$$$ folks. It's all about the money!
