Hi Colleen. I am 76 and have tried every pastry recipe going following all instructions carefully with mostly good results. Today I made your pastry, which as you say, breaks standard rules. For example, room temp lard and tepid water. This is the BEST, most beautiful pastry bar none. It is very easy to work with. I made mince pies and an apple mincemeat pie. Outstanding. Thank you. Blessings from North Bay Ontario. :)

Hello Christine, How very brave of you to try something that breaks all the rules. .lol. I find the same things that you found but the best part is the result at the end. Thank you for your kind comments and for watching the channel. Best wishes, Colleen

I love this crust recipe - my mom who grew up in Wisconsin use to make it like this, then she switched to more cold water but everything remained the same except for that. I'm 73 and use this one all the time. There's something about rolling the dough - so therapeutic. I use Granny Smith apples for my pies - FYI. Keep up the good work - delicious recipes!!

I have to say, Colleen, I love your down-home approach. Especially with your pie crust recipe. I might even give it a go myself, despite the fact that pie crusts have been the bane of my existence for as long as I care to remember. I appreciate your style: you take a lot of fear and trepidation out of cooking. ❤

My goodness how I wish US manufacturers would switch to square or rectangular containers instead of just round! Yes, I'm gushing over your vinegar bottle 😂. Thank you for the recipe, it looks tasty

Hello Lisa, It has been quite some time since we had round ones and they are so much easier to store. The apple cranberry pie is really good. Cheers, Colleen

I have the same problem with counter tops being too high for me! When I have quite a bit of hand mixing to do I set the bowl or pot down into the sink and work like that because it’s lower. Works very well!

It is so refreshing to know you make your own pie crust! I watch a lot of cooking videos and everyone uses pie crust that comes rolled up. They always say it’s as good as home made which of course it’s not! My mom taught me how to make crust with crisco when I was 15. I’ve never heard of transparent apples, I live on the southern coast of North Carolina and have never seen them in the store are they called anything else? Really like the idea of using a fresh orange and cranberries in apple pie. We always put orange marmalade in our cranberry sauce, such a nice combination.
@oursilvermoments60282 жыл бұрын
Hello Ashley, They are called Yellow Transparent and they are the first apple to be ready here. The skin is very thin, and the apple is quite tender so they have to be treated carefully. I have seen them in the grocery store but I don't know where they are being grown to come to market here. I like to just make a batch of crust, divide it up, pop it in the freezer and then I have it for when things are busy. Thanks for watching, Colleen

i was hoping you would make a pie crust soon, as i have been prepping for a pumpkin pie, but needed a pie crust to go with it. i have had my share of disappointments in the past trying to make pie crust, and usually just go buy one. i am really trying to be more efficient and independent which could be really helpful this year. thank you so much for making this look doable for everyone. Rebecca.

Hello Colleen…I just recently found your channel and the first vid I saw was one of the bread machine videos. I have an old bread machine in my basement that hasn’t been used in years. Your use of making the machine do the tedious work for you blew my mind! My hubby Loves fresh bread and rolls so I drug the machine up from the basement and today is the day I’m going to try it for the first time! But today I watched this pie dough instruction and being a Martha follower I have to say I find your easy going way of baking so reassuring that I think I’m going to give pie dough another try with your instructions and recipe. Thanks so much for all you do. I hope you are well and looking forward to watching other endeavors you get into 😉

Hi Colleen, I know this is a year old but I’m hoping you see this question and hopefully answer me. That pastry looks lovely and I think I’ll try that next time I make a pie but my question is regarding the filling. I generally cook my apple and what other fruit I put with it before I use it, I know its not really necessary but it’s the way I was taught but I always put some sugar in to remove the tartness. I’ve never used cranberries before but I have had the light cranberry juice and it is horrible,really bitter. If I don’t cook the filling is it fine to put sugar in with the fruit and mix it in the bowl and put it in the pie like that before it gets cooked?? Sorry, I probably should know the answer at 68 years old but I want to double check. I hope you see this Colleen and thank you. Have a good week and I’ll continue to pray for strength and healing for your heart for both you and your husband. Take care of yourself.
