Hey fellows, try to also make it to Rheinland-Pfalz Area, especially to Speyer and the German Wine Street including Bad Dürkheim. This is a lovely spot of Germany with lots of great Pfalz Food. I recommend to head directly to Domhof Restaurant in Speyer. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Especially in summer time it is amazing sitting outside and enjoying the homebrew beer and of course, the dish "Pfälzer Leibgericht". ;-)

Germany has a lot to offer when it comes to landscapes and pictoresque towns and villages. Whether it is the north, the south, the east , west or central germany. you'll find something you'll want to remember everywhere. Bavaria, for example, has more to offer than the instagram locatons. whether that is the national forest in the east with its mountains you can climb and the forest playground. or Regensburg with the 1000 year old stone bridge that is still in use today, or the surrounding area with the Valhalla and roman castells or the Limes. There is a lot to see with a lot of history going back thousands of years.

It's so refreshing and heartwarming how appreciative, mindful and grateful you are about so many "little" things we natives take for granted - we too should re-learn to be a bit more grateful again. In this sense: Happy holidays! BTW: Look for "Nesquick" in your local supermarket. It's the best loved instant Cocoa drink in Germany, maybe it comes close to your hot chocolate in Rothenburg.

Please don't take Nesquik if you want good hot chocolate 😂It is fine for a quick hot and sweet beverage fix, but always go for "Heiße Schokolade" when you're in a café or so. Nesquik doesn't hold a candle to the "real" stuff 😋
@swanpride
@swanpride 2 жыл бұрын
Oh please...Nesquick is popular because it is cheap and there has been a lot of advertising for that stuff. If you really like cacao, you avoid the overly sweet stuff! If you want some to make at home, my recommendation is Carotina. If you want to buy some, surprisingly Kamps has a really good hot chocolate. But if you want the real stuff, you buy actual cacao and make it yourself, preferable with some honey instead of sugar.

You´ve been lucky to see Rothenburg so empty. Normally, the place is nearly overrun with tourists, often from China and Japan. What I really liked about the city wall is that you find there plenty of stones with names and dates and place names on it (often from abroad). Those are acknowledgements to people who donated to rebuild or to preserve the old city wall. It´s heartwarming, I remember to see donators from Florida and other places listed .

but also the opposite applies, especially with all those pretty tourist destinations which are usually overcrowded and you barely can move through the streets and see anything else but crowds of tourists. i call that "tourist infested travel destinations", and just as another example, i want to mention venice which has only thousands of inhabitants but millions of tourists, and even set up rules (with heavy fines) to not sit down on bridges and walls and to not eat and drink any beverages there. all those towns and landmarks are pretty and worth visiting *_IF_* you can really see and enjoy them (while you may travel, but not too many others do the same).

Can it be that this icecream was made with huckleberries? That American berry is used in the food industry as it is easier to produce commercially than its European relative, the real "Heidelbeere" or "Blaubeere" which grows among heather on dry land and has to be painstakingly picked by hand.

Most likely...I love me some "Blaubeereis" and so far everytime I got it, it was made with real Heidelbeere. I don't think that you can even made proper ice with the tasteless things which are commercially grown Blaubeeren. That and Italian style ice creme is superior of what passes as ice cream in the US (though I give them some credit for the concept of cookies and creme ice).

My home town 😂🙌🏻glade you liked it here. It’s small but lovely. With a stroller it’s impossible but if you have the chance you should definitely check out the Christmas museum or at least the shop. The is a huge Christmas pyramid inside and everything looks like a genuin Christmas village. Walking around the medieval Wall all around the city can be exciting too you get a great view of the city (in and outside). The wildbad is also wonderful it’s next to the Tauber its a huge beautiful building housing a cafe and an outdoor bowling era.

since y'all like riding your bikes, here is a recommendation. start in Schweinfurt, bycicles were basically invented there. ride along the River Main to Volkach. www.fahrrad-tour.de/Tagebuch/Mainradweg/MainRadweg_SchweinfurtVolkach.htm . Google things like F&S, Sachs Torpedo, Kugellager, etc. Maybe go all the way to wuerzburg and visit the kaeppele and the Residenz in Wuerzburg. Google Tiepolo and Residenz.

There is a story about an merican general who started to collect money to rebuild the old city as there has been a lot of damage during the war. I cannot remember correctly but there are a lot of tags on the wall with the names of donors.

Is Willa now old enough to play with other kids? It would be so good for her to react to and interact with same-age children. I believe that in Germany the pre-schoolers are really young. The Kinderkrippe comes to mind, though you have to pay. Also, languages are not a problem for young children. They somehow manage to make themselves understood with each other. It's kind of miraculous when one sees the problems adults have with different languages.

Nice to see you are on the road even its a bit cold outside. I feel bad that the big C hinders you to feel, see, experience the atmosphere the places you travel to. On the other hand that time it isnt so much overcrowed as ususal. Tanner, now you tasted Rindsbratwurst, you already had Rostbratwurst and Nürnberger Bratwurst. You still miss Grobe Bratwurst(similiar to Rostbratwurst but the so called Brät isnt so much cut, therefore it called grob) And of course Thüringer Bratwurst you still miss. Your relatives will enjoy to have choices on their first BBQ at your home place. Once you explore the southern region along Lake Constanze(Bodensee) dont miss a short stop at Kloster Birnau, heading to Unteruhldingen with their Pfahlbauten and also taking a ferry to the island flower island Mainau(entry fees). You shoud not miss the nearby city Meersburg. I wish you a very nice christmas eve and cross fingers you will be able to join a so called christmette in an old church which provide a special atmosphere that time. Dont get to much overwhelmed with homesickness especially missing your family members. You are an own nice family with many other people will think to you this time too. Dont feel alone. Enjoy these days !

Ja, Käthe Wohlfahrt is an, if not the, epicenter of Christmas ornaments in germany. Much rebuilding after WWII in Rothenburg, think Dinkelsbühl, nearby, is said to be more original and less "touri".

Willa, the (not so) secret star of the show. 😍 The splashing noises, the cocoa covered mouth, that somewhat pensive look "Do I really like this? Yeah, I think so... gimme!". So cute. Sorry to you, no matter how good your other content is, Willa is a sweet angel (at least she looks like one) that really steals the show. Rindswurst, or rather Rinderbratwurst, has a stronger, beefier taste (well, obviously). The casing often is a bit tougher as well, as the corseness of the filling often includes small to medium sized chunks of fat. This fat renders in the heat of the griddle and expands quite a lot thus often putting the casing under quite some pressure. A Rindswurst can squeeze out a jet of hot fat over quite some distance if it is straight from the griddle if you bite into it, or poke it with a fork. It is definitely a different flavor profile than a Nürnberger Rostbratwurst. Rissa's "hmmhmm mmmhhmm, hmmmhmmm, mmmhmmm mhhhmmm" is a perfect tribute to the experience of a Christmas market. On a chilly day, eating hot food right off the stalls, surrounded by the aromas of lots of different foods and drinks, the lights, strolling over cobblestones in a well-preserved town center, taking in the sights, the ever-green bows and decorations everywhere. That's an experience you need to have had at least once in your life. Many people get somewhat addicted to that experience. Thanks for reminding me how beautiful my country is, that it has so much to offer. I really live vicariously through your stories, *your story to tell*.
