I don't know whether you said it in humor, but it's in our Indian culture regardless of culture, ethnicity or faith, there are different such organizations who provide free or cheap meal to the needy. So, no one is copying the other, but sharing the same feeling of caring for them. 😊

I had a friend from Delhi who never used his hands specifically while eating rice. He was okay using his hands while eating roti or other bread items used for dipping and eating.

@@anupamakushwaha5503 if not for Tamil Nadu and Dravidian movement's effort, Kamaraj, regardless of being a congress leader, wouldn't have started mid-day meal in 60s and it wouldn't have developed as policy imperative in 70s and 80s in TN. Remember it was nearly only two decades ago, mid-day meals policy implemented across many states. So yes, the inception of the policy lies in an exceptional Tamil Nadu, which steered the course right from the start and it's important to give the credit where it's due.

Brother not only Sikhs,they also serve free food to the people in big temples and Hindu organizations and also support these temple people for free education and health. You only saw the video of the food but many Hindu organizations also work for health and education in India.

Reminds me of my school lunch. We'd get as much as rice as we want, sambar, butter milk, a variety of dry sabzi (vegetables cooked with masala and no gravy- very very healthy), papad and pickle, all for just ₹25 a meal. I went to a private school, so affordability was not an issue there. The food was so delicious, and the staff there served us with so much love! Most of them were senior citizens who came from underprivileged families, and the kids in my school too, treated them like they were out own grandparents. It's been atleast 9 years since I've last had their meal, and to this day, I have never had food that tastes that good! I had a favourite among the staff too.. on the day of her retirement, i gifted her a nice kerala sari and she just hugged me, teary eyed and told me how she always thought of the kids there as her own. Man, I'm welling up!
