Sang well even at this age. Could hear the nice sound from instruments. I think the song is from Rekha's 70s. I suggest here the song Kavithai Kelungal sung by Vani Jayaram (the female singer who passed away recently) with Jayachandran for the movie Punnagai Mannan(1986). Extraordinary composition by Maestro Ilayaraja with back to back tune transition which led Revathi to dance.

She has sung an incredibly diverse range, from Indian semi classical to folk to film songs/ ghazals/ ballads and devotional conpositions in multiple languages. Even Usha Uthup has had a great range, albeit not as prolific and diverse genres, but again multiple languages.

I am Bengali and I came across that song a few months ago. I don't understand the Marathi lyrics fully, but it is a masterpiece. Her voice and the way she sings the song is out-of-the-world. How she seamlessly jumps across notes is unbelievable. In the third antara she jumps from high to low to high notes without any effort. All while not getting lost in the tarana and preserving the beauty. Effortlessly. A feat which only Asha Tai could achieve. You should also listen to her Bengali song : "O pakhi ure aaye" and "aami khatar pataye cheyechilam" if you haven't.

Hi Korbin, check out Asha Bhosle’s venture into Western pop & dance music. Singing lead with the band ‘The West India Conpany’ - song ‘Ave Maria ‘. A 1984 dance / club hit around Europe especially in Germany. Sadly ignored in the UK. The band featured tabla player Pandit Dinesh, members of UK electro pop band Blancmange and Vince Clarke of Depeche Mode & Erasure. Asha also sang on ‘Bow Down Mister’ with Boy George & his band Jesus Loves You - his band after Culture Club. It was a big UK hit.
