His major theme in his filmography is exploring violence and non violence. There are 3 films he made that are unparalleled and brilliant in technique and craft : 1) Thevar Magan : Thevars are the dominant caste in TN, a warring clan, their leader was the first to support Netaji Bose. However succeeding generations were violent and Casteist supremacists. Kamal plays an educated Thevar who has left his ways and come back to his village to his father. Events lead him from a non violent educated to a violent man. What it teaches him is the story. 2) Hey Raam : Just watch it. If you are over 23, have superficially known about it, do yourself a favour and watch it. A man whose wife is raped and killed in Kolkata riots plots to kill Gandhi.
