Opium wars were one of the most pivotal incident in modern Indian history, where the doors to chinese expansionism of Brits started. Basically its starts with control of Canton area where the foreign ships were previously not allowed to dock or to sell opium to chinese. Opium wars were devastating and finally got British the control of opium trade , by obvious unequal treaty that British were accustomed to make.
@desirogerebert3562
@desirogerebert3562 4 жыл бұрын
Opium wars were also the catalyst for liberation and financial growth of parsi and iranian communities in India. It were the farsis and iranis who first delved with the British to trade with China and in turn became very rich as well got in good books of british, Hence. the ancestors of shapoorji, tata, wadias were all opium traders for british with China in the mid 18th century. Before the opium wars, the parsis and iranis were small minority communities who were poor traders.

Even before china tea was brought to India, India has its own varieties of tea plants and has been mostly using it for medicinal purposes. In Ayurveda, tea has been called by many different names in Sanskrit based on their medicinal benefits and physical properties. For example "giribheet" (grown on mountain soil), "komalras" (mild nectar), "shyamparni" (dark green leaves), "smleshmari" (mucus killer), "atandri" (insomniac). Britishers came popularised it as a beverage (good for us)! Both in India and China tea is called "chai" or "cha". I think the term "Tea" came from mispronouncing its scientific name "Thea". Some how the 'h' got dropped. :)

Not many know of New Amsterdam that came before New York. When the Dutch gave up New Amsterdam to the British in return of Suriname I think, the name changed from New Amsterdam to New York after the Duke of York. Many places in NYC such as Broadway, Harlem, Wall Street, Broadway, Bronx, etc. have come from Dutch words or places in the Netherlands. Haarlem is a city that is 775 years old here in the Netherlands. Watching from The Netherlands btw ;)

boston tea party was against import of tea from India via British company where Americans were demanding that they won't pay taxes because they don't have voting rights . so they were demanding equality and yes tea was huge and they thought Americans will never refuse the tea so they decreased the taxes and increased the price of tea exports to almost triple however, American refused it . may be this could be reason Americans shifted towards coffee as a sign of patriotic feeling as well as to disobey the britishers.

Tea comes from the Tea plant (Camellia Sinensis). That is the only source for tea, or chai. Try calling Chamomile coffee. That does not make sense, you say? Neither does Chamomile Tea. Just as Coffee needs to come from the Coffea species of plants, tea needs to come from the Camellia Sinensis species pf plants. Chamomile comes from plants of the family Asteraceae, and adding hot water to it does not make coffee or tea. It is an herbal infusion.
