Even though this scene is a happy marriage reception it has an underlining of sadness. The lady whom you thought was the bride’s mother is actually her elder sister. The groom and the sister had been lovers for a long time and when he meets the younger sister he changes his mind and wants to marry her and the elder sacrifices her love. The guy who is singing(Kamal) is secretly in love with the bride and is sad to see her marry. The elder sister comes from a lower middle class family with lots of siblings. The father has abandoned the family and she has a drunkard as an elder brother. She is the sole breadwinner of the family. Lovely songs in the entire movie. The brother reforms and when it looks like she will find love again and marry, the brother dies and she decides to look after the family instead of marrying. The cycle repeats.

Telugu version Anthuleni Katha (1976) was just remake of original Tamil version of Aval Oru Thodarkathai (1974). For all the songs the same tune was used in the remake also composed by M.S .Viswanathan. The mimicry was not done by S.P.B himself rather it was done by R. Srinivasan , Sadan and Saibaba , These mimicry artists produced the sound of anklets after Viswanathan rejected a proposal to use actual anklets as M S. Viswanathan wanted only human voices to mimic the sounds of objects and animals.

Yes - in Bengal Salil Chowdhury music and Sorry to say both the songs and the singing no where closer to tamil. This song is a genius - Both M.S Viswanathan the composer and SPB singing. But the Mimicry was done by - Sadan, Saibaba and Udayarpalayam R. Srinivasan. In Hindi ( jeevan Dhara) from Lakshimikanth Pyarilal & Kishore kumar also did not work either.

I think you will like this Kamal song who danced in his style for the song Poo potta thaavani from the film Kaakichattai (1985) in maestro Ilayaraja musical. Kamal is in love with the lady who is standing alone smiling at him from time to time. He is sad when he realises that his love is one sided and keeps himself joyful just for the kids and the song. That is why he cries afer the song. Kamal is brilliant with comedy roles. He is also exceptional with roles that are mentally a bit retarded. "16 Vayadhinilay" is a super hit classic of Kamals performance.

Now that I have seen the Telugu and Tamil version of this song, I recommend Kannada version of the same song - "taali kattuva shubhavele". I feel Kannada version of this song has come a little better as it was done much later and the sound recording qualities would have improved by then.
