We have two elderly people (75) , hubby and I , in our house and I have kept track of every receipt and expenditure for over two years now. We haven't been able to grow a lot though we keep trying. I do spend a lot of time tracking prices and bargains, always searching for specials on food we would eat in any store we might be going by. I can veggies, meat, and as many items of food I can get my hands on at the best prices. Presently we are averaging just over $120 per person per month--and that includes ALL the food, without the meat being separate. I love cooking and spend a lot of time on it, thanking God for everything He provides.

We're two retirees. I do garden and we only plant what we know we will enjoy. We spend about $140 every two weeks. So, $280 a month unless we find something that we stock up on for the freezer. In summer, we eat a lot of salads with garden produce so we end up saving money.

We’re a family of 10 but two are grown and gone so I’m feeding eight. Our average grocery budget is $1000/month but I can easily get by with $400/month if ever necessary or helpful because we have chickens and a dairy cow. I cannot wait for you guys to experience your cows in milk. Not only is it just such an incredible blessing; all that you can do with their milk, but also the beautiful rhythm that twice daily milkings brings to your day. I absolutely love it. …except when it’s pouring rain, like today.😬

I clean houses for a living and I've pretty stopped using any other chemicaled cleaners. I put straight white vinegar in a spray bottle and use it for every thing! My people love the cleanness without smelling junk that is bad for their health. It cleans glass, soap scum, coffee stains, toilets, and leaves floors and stainless steel looking beautiful! Unless i need to use an oil on some furniture i dont use anything else!

Growing up my parents grew all their own vegetables, we had fruit trees and would share fruit with neighbours. Mum would preserve fruit, make jams, relish, tomato sauce and then mum would freeze the vegetables she could. Mum was also a great sewer so she would make our school uniforms, as well as other clothes.

We are a family of 2 (myself and my handicapped daughter). We spend 200.00 per month on groceries if we shop heavy. No teens, no little ones who need snacks, and I follow the rule of "shop the perimeter" of the grocery store. I hit produce, meat, and dairy hard, and minimize accessing the middle aisles. Also, we waste nothing and make a lot from scratch. Love the home made "doritos."

Our budget has been around 1500 dollars for 9 people. Trying to scale it down more considering we have a full beef in our freezer and do some impulse buying. I've really gotten into clearance shopping and sale shopping at a Kroger store. When things go on sale it can be cheaper than buying bulk at Sam's. I used to buy Rotel, but now I just buy cans of petite diced tomatoes and green chilies separately. It's cheaper, especially when I find cans on sale for 50cents, I stock up!

You guys don't know how good you have it! I am always astounded by how little food costs in the US. Eating in a similar way here in New Zealand costs us $1400 per month for a family of four - IThat includes buying most of our veges directly from the farmer, being part of a co-OP, making most of our own bread etc. I guess that's the pay off for living on a small island at the far end of the earth 😉.

You can use the lemon rinds as well, after washing the rind well in water zest all of the rinds and you can freeze the zest in freezer bags for use in tea, cookies, cakes and many meals to add a wonderful freshness, then place those rinds in your white vinegar to make it smell like lemon , when cleaning... also the cut side can be used to sanitize cutting boards, counter tops and tables, just let it air dry.... one more good use is using lemon juice and salt on white clothing to ' bleach' them just lay in a sunny spot for tougher stains or really yellowed items... let the juice saturate the clothing, rub salt into it, if laying in the sun let it mostly dry , then flip over and continue, rinse and wash like normal, fresh and clean Brite white...... also lemon juice with vinegar is great to freshen pillows and other fabrics, especially if you can let them air dry out side or in the sun, I do this often even in winter , for our bed pillows, it's so nice to have fresh linens. Thank you for sharing ❤❤

Sarah is very smart having $ set aside for fruit replacements. I’d rather replenish fresh foods mid month than having kiddos eating more healthily for half the month and second half eating processed food in larger amounts in the second half.

My income is recovering just in time, but it will be a slow process getting restocked. I am so thankful for your hauls and meal prep videos. My budget includes everything…health & beauty aids, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. I only have a Walmart and Kroger to shop from so I’m a slave to their rollbacks or weekly sales. We use a cash envelope budget so if I go over my grocery budget, I’ll borrow it from the restaurant envelope. I also coupon at Walgreens and CVS. For the cilantro if you don't have a dehydrator/freeze dryer you can dry them by hanging them up somewhere. I grow a bunch of herbs in the spring and summer and that is what I do with what I grow. It is a nice, easy, and low cost way to preserve them. Because your not running an appliance to dry them out. It does take a week or so but they taste great. After I know the herbs are dry I usually use my blender and pulse then to put in seasoning jars.

Hi! Love your grocery hauls! As a family of 13, allowing snacks and center-of-the-store shopping, not making bread, fermenting, or condiments, we spend about $ 3,200 monthly, including toiletries, cleaning products, and pet food. We also buy almost 100% organic, pasture-raised, and grass-fed beef. We also purchase Raw milk. We love Azure, but many things, like Peanut Butter, are cheaper at the store. The Costco Organic peanut butter is cheaper than Azure. Do you shop at Costco? I also shop at multiple stores to save the most money. If we don't buy snacks and make bread and all that good stuff, my monthly bill is way down! We were at under $2500 in January, and we are off to an even better start for February.

We were born and raised in So Cal, then raised our two older children there and our third was 11 when finally moved to Texas. Food is not less expensive here like we were led to believe that “everything” cost less in Texas. But we were able to double our home size, my husband went from spending 1.5 hour/each direction to and from work. He was tearing up when his first commute was 15 min. He spent just over 25 years of our marriage commuting from Corona to Orange County. We’re also a single income family and we also homeschooled all three of our kiddos. Being the CEO of homemaking and primary teacher are no smucky roles. I know we all asmommas are doing the best we can to keep the home fronts thriving. I cannot stand the demeaning description that even women speak of when referring to rearing children and homemaking. I support women no matter what life choices they make in working inside the home or out. Sorry…I guess I got on my soapbox a little. LOL But CA is challenging, so kudos on brilliant grocery budgeting.

Once a month I make corn tortillas, then they get made into tortilla chips. It's so time consuming!!! But it helps the taco meat stretch because they don't eat as much taco meat when we have chips. Last month I used our popcorn seasoning and made doritos. Not the healthiest, but the kids love it. Once they are gone, they are gone til next month.

some dill weed, some fine grated cucumber, salt, pepper, and plain yogurt, makes a really good sauce to go on thin sliced beef and lamb hamburger for Gyro's! on your extra homemade pastsa, Lay the pasta out on parchment paper let it dry a bit, about six hours then pack it gently into storage containers and freeze.

To preserve the pasta, you need to dry it out. Try placing in the oven with the pilot on for a while. Turn over half way through.

Thank you for the video! Love seeing what you get since we eat similarly. I have a family of 7 and we can’t seem to do any lower than $1500 per month for groceries. (We’re in CA). So that’s $214 per person. So you’re doing great! I shop at Costco, Trader Joe’s, grocery outlet and Azure. Gonna check out some of the azure things your bought. Thanks!

I buy several things in bulk even with not many in my home just to have it on hand and usually cheaper. I think what I would spend an average monthly amount per person is close to what you spend per person.

I just spent about half our monthly grocery budget at Costco...I'm really hoping I can make that stretch into March because it's the slow period at my husband's work, and I don't want to have to take from savings again. Chickens have been on strike (half broody, half sulking because of the heat or because the nest boxes are all filled with broody hens) but we've gotten just over a dozen in the last week, so that's slowly improving. I've got a decent garden, but I was sick for most of January and it got neglected. At least my 16 year old kept up with the watering so almost everything is still alive! We live in Australia and at the moment, I'm budgeting $350/week (in AUD) which comes to about $233 AUD per person (or about $152 USD).

Yes, that is a very good idea finding what you have stuck in the back of the freezer. I use the food saver vacuum sealer, had some chicken that was in there for over 5 years and it was still perfect taste and texture. Deep freeze! Ok, were those whole tomatoes in the freezer? Oh I found in my pantry some tip top tomato juice, 3 large cans and cooked them down to 2 1/2 quarts of spaghetti sauce! Delicious. ended up as some soup and bread on the way to the final reduction. But it's delicious soup and the tip top cans were bought in 2018 and were in excellent condition and the juice was still good tasting!

It takes a lot more money to live. Yes you can lower your food budget by not eating out and cooking from scratch .the last time we ate out was in December for our 55 wedding anniversary .$ 65.00 bucks. But what about car insurance and house insurance ,property taxes and utilities ? Sara is not talking about that. When you are on a fixed income where do cut back? Our grocery stores are about 5 minutes away . Go ones a week . We don’t snack at all. Forget about planning a trip. Hotel have gotten super expensive . We used to have winter getaways but since we are both over 75 years travel insurance spiked tremendously . Thank god we live in a sunny part of the country ,so it helps with the moods.

We have just the two of us and we cut this year’s budget to $75 per week, which comes out to $162.50 per person. I also have a $120 per month stock up budget which I used for either Azure or Thrive Life. Thrive Life is long term food storage. I try o get the monthly specials from Thrive Life but I skip it for 2 months twice a year to get Azure. We tightened our budget up this year because we want to invest in some home improvements.

Hi Sarah, it’s so interesting to see what people around the world are spending on their shopping. We are around £550 per month for a family of 4 in Scotland, this includes just about all our household needs (meds, vitamins, bathroom, cleaning & laundry products), so £138 ($176) per person. We definitely could be spending a lot of less, but my kids shop with me and have a strong influence - a large part of my budget is just berries! 😅
