One of my best time savers is to pre-chop an entire bag of onions, squish flat in gallon freezer bags in 2 cup amts. When I'm pressed for time, the onion "slab" can easily be broken off and thaws quickly when dumped into cooked recipes. My eyes can't take the onion fumes so I drag my food processor & all I need and prep everything on my back porch - no tears, no fumes in my house, saves time and no mess for future me!

She was also the Volunteer Coordinator and she was on TV and Radio. She is also very active in her church. So, when we go to lunch, she is often recognized. I sit back and think "my sister, the local celebrity". It is kind of fun.

For your pie crusts, keep them in the frig and take out only one at a time when you are ready to roll it out, also helps to roll it between two sheets of parchment paper, if the pie crust gets too warm it will be difficult to roll out, its best to keep it cold. Also, put it back in the frig in the pie plate while you are making up your items to put in the crust.

The secret to good pie crust (so I’ve been told by all the ladies at my church), is to make a lot of pies, and therefore, a lot of crust. Practice makes perfect. I myself can’t make a pie crust to save my soul . But being a single member household, it is just as easy to buy an all ready pie crust. I roll them out a little thinner, and they actually come out pretty flaky. Find ways to use pie crust in both sweet and savory recipes and put them on a regular rotation. There are a bazillion different combinations when making quiches, chicken pot pie, etc. I have no doubt you’ll master it and be successful. 2025 is the year of the tortilla and pie crust! You’ve got this! ❤️
@KAStodgell21 күн бұрын
A pie crust needs to chill before rolling it out because chilling solidifies the fat in the dough, which helps create a flaky texture by preventing the fat from melting too quickly during baking, and also allows the gluten in the flour to relax, making the dough easier to roll out and less likely to shrink while baking.

Sarah a few tips. When you make cranberry juice you can repurpose the berries into muffins. They still have flavor. Many people think of beans and cornbread as a southern meal but I think it’s a farmers meal. I would think you all would love cornbread. I cook white beans with a ham hock and chicken broth. Salt , pepper and a bit of garlic. Put your cornbread in the bottom of a bowl with butter then cover with beans and the juice. It’s so good! I like to too with onions.🤤

One thing that adds stress to pies is trying to get the pie crust big enough with extra for a crimped edge. A few years back I just started making extra (enough for 3 pies when I'm really making 2). Saves so much stress You end up with scraps which you can save or roll out and sprinkle with cinnamon for a snack.
