Very first release by one of the most criminally underrated bands in punk and hardcore. A super limited re-release of this recording were sold by the boys over at Velted Regnub after getting permission to dub them from original Out Cold singer Kevin Mertens. While I expected a proper demo session on this tape, these recordings are actually from a soundboard capturing a live set. Honestly, before grabbing one of the reissue copies, I didn't even know this demo existed. I assume tapes from 1991 exist because, it's not listed on Discogs, but on the 1992 release "It's Better to Die On Your Feet Than Live On Your Knees" there is a little note that says "WARNING 9 of the 17 tracks on this tape have appeared on our previous demo." On "Demo '91", there was no track listing included with the tape insert, but I recognized a majority of the tracks from the Hate Tracks compilation and the first proper Out Cold LP from 1994. It's interesting to hear the early incarnations of these songs, a lot of them more rocknroll sounding than ripping fast. Most people are probably more familiar with the Out Cold material featuring Mark Sheehan on vocals (bass on this recording), Mertens leaving the band after the first LP. Out Cold would remain one of the most consistent bands, playing tried and true hardcore punk with a whole slue of releases from 1989 until the death of Sheehan in 2010.
