I thought they were in love from the beginning. Especially from Adam side. In every scene he was looking for Lute's attention and approval even if he was talking someone else. Like: "blah blah blaf" *quick look exchange with Lute *blah blah blah..m" *another look at Lute* and so on. And later in the court when he revealed the truth about Extermination she immediatly appeared behind him, grabbing his arm in support. The smile in the last scene was just confirmation of all I was able to see earlier.

@@vampiresethariel It's funny because I thought the same thing about Lute each time she had one of those exaggerated reactions, almost as they were intended to rouse Adam's attention. Like when she appeared childishly proud of having shocked him through her vivid description of Vaggie's demise, or when she plunged into the battle after having screamed ostensibly by his side, or even when she proposed the extermination of every sinner as it was even possible to do such a thing... Both of them looked always in need of constant approval and seemed to be devoted in trying to impress each other, even if in very different ways (Adam more as a chaotic teenager trying to be cool, Lute as a passionate sidekick trying to be good).

For real. Though they honestly had a lot of really good moments beforehand. Adam legitimately complimenting her skills, their cute little interactions in Hell is Forever, Adam letting Lute lead and backing her up in You Didn't Know (wild for a guy who has been determined to overpower women since his creation,) Lute telling Adam not to say anything about the Exterminations, yet instead of shaming him when he accidentally does, she backs him up. I think the reason their scene when he died stood out in comparison is that a lot of these previous moments aren't really front and center, but Lute's reaction to Adam's death and his smile to her definitely was. I think it's clear that Lute is gonna be motivated to avenge Adam out of grief, so the show needed to make it bluntly clear that they had a genuine friendship.

I love this! I love how the villains twist the meaning of the song... especially for angel succumbing to Valentino's abuse, and Emily (obviously not a villain, but working for an antagonist currently) stands up against Sera's corruption. Lute trying to bury her feelings while still upholding untrue heavenly values, while Vaggie embraces them and gains her wings back from her true heavenly values. Also, I can picture a Respectless cover for Sera and Emily. While Carmilla, a supporting character, calls out Velvette, an antagonist. Velvette then proves that Carmilla is hiding something, showing that an antagonist exposed a lie that a hero was telling. I can imagine the roles being reversed for Sera and Emily, with Sera being the more villainous one pulling a "how dare you treat me this way after all I've done for you?". Emily, the hero, will stand up to Sera, the villain, proving the villain was hiding something, not the hero.

I honestly think that Lute may have actually had romantic feelings for Adam, but wasn’t able to act on them in part because of how Adam acted and how she didn’t want to mess things up or it was against Heaven's code of conduct. Now that he is gone, her realization she could never tell him is driving her desire and thirst for vengeance, and she wants to make Hell (specifically Charlie, Vaggie, and likely Nifty) pay. However, she also feels she needs to focus on making sure that Heaven is prepared for the battle to come, and she is finding it hard to focus.
