My wife and I just got back last night from Utah. We visited Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks. The landscape there is much different than the Pacific Northwest (Washington). We even rented an ATV and got in a helicopter ride over Zion. We'll worth the trip to start off our early retirement.

No you don't look like a golfer lol, you were dressed for a hot hike and looked great! Terrific area you chose and I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Seen those rocks in films and pictures and it was great to see them up close. Yes, I loved Airwolf and Stringfellow Hawke! Great TV. Stay safe guys.

Your sharing means a lot to those that can't. Yes I am still here, you take the time to add the little things at the end, I will take the time to look for them. Your country, like ours South Africa 🇿🇦 has wonderful scenery. Mother Nature gave this world such beauty and abundant wildlife and yet there we go...we do our best to destroy it. It's so sad! I'm not an expert, but I've done a lot of exploring in Southern Utah, and have learned a few things about the geology there. The salt deposits you found once were diffuse elements in the soil. Constant wetting and drying have concentrated the salts and driven them out of the soil by the process known as leaching. My first time camping in the Valley of the Gods I found what I considered to be a perfect campsite. Yes, it was near the dirt road that people use to see the valley, but there was no traffic so I thought I was safe. Shortly after putting up my tent a rented car appeared and drove right up to where I was camping. It was full of young Germans, all men, and seeing my tent, thought " what a great place to camp". So I had company that night. I didn't want any company, but made the best of it, thinking all that time that in a perfectly empty desert the only humans within 10 or 20 miles seek me out and camp next to me. Worse can happen.

Great video. I kept chuckling about the heat and the air sucking moisture out of you. I’ve lived in the desert for a long time and when I go to humidity, I find the air almost too heavy to easily breath. I guess you get used to your own environment. Keep on keeping on.

I had a similar injury to my heel several years ago. With all the hiking and backpaking you do it will take a while for it to heal. They sent me to a foot specialist for it. Buy you some heel cushions to put down in your shoe to help it heal with all the hiking and backpacking you do. My dr. gave me one for each heel. My insurance paid for it. It helped. I was doing a lot of walking back than. So it took forever for it to heal. Nice video. Thank you for taking us along with you. I always look forward to the videos from the across country trips you two do every year. You should make a trip to KY one year.

The salt is from times that the inland sea evaporated. The sands and carbonates were deposited when the sea was present. What you see are the cycles of sea-level rise and fall. With evaporation and deposition taking place relative to sea level.
