I left Chicago in '94, one of my best days ever in L.A. was when The Jesus Lizard came through and played the parking lot of Aron's Records in Hollywood in '96.

R.I P Steve Albini. Nice that this doc opens with one of his songs. Big Black made the best unatural guitar sounds.

Absolutely brilliant! It is so important to document those times, the people and the music. Well done to the film maker. Thanks for sharing this

"There's only one song" What a douchecannon. The reason why I still listen to The Jesus Lizard more than say than Hammerhead, Tar, Cows, God and Texas, etc. is because they wrote amazing songs. They had far more dynamics than those other bands and each song was different. Duane Dennison was a FAR better guitarist and that was what made them phenomenal. Cows could have been that off the chain if they had a guitarist who could do even 20% of what Duane was capable at the time.

Few things are attention capturing like "The Power of Independent Trucking." That was a fucking masterful creative choice.

Has there ever been a more incendiary force of nature live than early 90s Jesus Lizard? I used to joke that Jesus Lizard were the Stooges of the 90s - never as a pejorative, but as a sincere description - but the older I get, the more I realize they were on par with any live band. Ever. David Yow is just about the only person this side of Iggy Pop who can hold the audience in the palm of his hand like that.

"Once you see the Jesus Lizard once, you get their schtick. It's one song." Dude, don't take it out on the band because you're too fat for the pit. I've seen the Jesus Lizard 10 times...every time was unique and wonderful.

wow! it only took me 20-years to get a chance to watch it. This was a very good movie and I would have adored it at 17 just as much as I do now....actually, watching this at 17 would have probably given me some much needed perspective on what a music industry is...or was at that time. The highlight for me, obviously the T3FA stuff...but during the Wesley Willis interview, I saw a T3FA poster that I have in my garage, still T3FA stuff. Thank you Kevin!

Finally this has been uploaded. I haven’t seen this in almost 20 years! My buddy bought a vhs copy from the director then and I haven’t seen it since. I have been on the prowl too. I sent email and asked folks and looked at record stores. So kudos to whomever uploaded it. Looks like Kevin from Triple Fast Action did. Thanks Kevin! TFA was the reason I wanted to see this in the first place. After searching for the Jesus Lizard and having this pop up was like finding Decline Of Western Civilization at the video store when you were a kid!

One thing I remember about Chicago's 90s punk scene is the "here today-gone tomorrow" indie labels, for instance, Firebrick records that had a few little bands that never went anywhere.

Not much to watch after the Jesus Lizard and the Wax Trax sections. The rest of the bands are pretty dull. I scrubbed ahead once I realized the bands were boring. I did watch Wesley Willis though. (How can you talk about Wax Trax and not mention Strike Under?)

Biggest thing that happened in the Chicago scene in the 90s, which started the year this doc was made, wasn't Smashing Pumpkins. It was Pitchfork Media and the effect they had on all indie music in the 00s.

So many of these Chicago bands of this era have such strident, upper mids in their guitars with very liyyle low end. It’s the exact opposite tonally of doom. ..not a criticism, the make it work.

I remember seeing the poster. It had Chris Holmes on it. He's as well known 20+ years later as he was then. (*To be fair, this movie's only slightly more pathetic than Decline of Western Civilization Pt. 2. Come to think of it, Chris Holmes was in that, too. But that was the Chris Holmes with a swimming pool. And a mother.)
