Thanks for putting this together. They deserve more recognition, for sure. Amazingly they sound exactly the same live as on their albums which is a hard thing to accomplish.

I remember reading a comment under an upload of "Zachariah" that simply said "our generation's Stairway To Heaven, we just didn't know it yet"
@eaterofspiders3 ай бұрын
One comment I saw under Skull Of A German was something like “A song about a Nazi being taken prisoner by Soviets and Americans during the battle of Berlin in WW2”, but it’s actually about some guy breaking into their dressing room while touring once and a security guy telling David Sims “If you wanna pop him, I didn’t see it” according to Book. David Yow can turn a funny story into a horror story with his lyrics and all you gotta do, as a listener, is not think about the context, but just listen.
@kolbykauffman4180Ай бұрын
When Daughters got their resurgence in 2018, I loved that album. And it literally took page after page of Jesus Lizard. From Yow's vocals and William S Burroughs rambling to the discordant panic chords and technical progressions.

Surprised that no one's really made any sort of videos breaking down what they do so this is a treat, I think Jesus Lizard are probably one of my all-time favorite bands just the energy that they have is rabid, it's like prodding some animal in a cage with like this burning stick. I'm really a big fan of everything they've done except for that album Blue. going to be seeing them in Brooklyn so I'm happy. I would definitely check out the birthday party, and the compilation "dope, guns, and fucking in the street" the band chrome and some of their other influences. I don't think anything else has shaped my guitar/bass sound as much.

Great video! But, "While rumors that Albini refused to work with the band due to their involvement with a major label persisted, both Albini and the group have stated this to be false". I read that in wikipedia though, so i don't know. Down is tied for my favorite with Goat. It was the first record i heard from them, and it sorta bugs me how almost everyone thinks you know "It's alright, but it's not AS good as the previous". Each to their own though. I love Down and every song on it, and i love how you mentioned "White Hole", awesome bonus track.

@@Jamsandwhichtopia I believe it was more or less because of how Down was a pain in the ass and a disappoinment to all parties involved. Even the band doesn't like Down. So i think they wouldn't have worked with Albini anymore, even if they didn't sign to capitol. But yeah, who knows.

This is nice enough, but it misses the point. In 1992 there was no "map" to be on. They toured constantly, and the "recognition" was how many people showed up at the next show. the albums were always sort of secondary to the primal experience of the live show. Yow is (was) unbelievably slimy when he crawled over you. I mean that literally. Sweat. The music they make has held up, unblemished. Timeless. Brilliant.
