“Out of the Rafters” documents Dane and friends going up into CI’s design library storage loft (in the rafters), where decades old magic boards from Tom, Kelly, Rob, Malloy Bros and more are tucked away in their final resting place. Dane cherry picked ones that caught his eye and documented the sessions in epic Mexico and fun waves at home with his friends @eithanosbourne @parkercoffin @mikeyfebruary-as well as shared his personal insights on the how they rode and what each board's historical/cultural relevance is.

Wow Dane what a nightmare of an accident, so glad you are OK. what a nasty cut. Dane....Not sure how long ago this accident happened but, make sure you get a "Ferritin iron deficiency" test and advanced iron testing because with that large amount of blood lost you could end up with "iron deficiency anemia" OR "non anemic iron deficiency" (look up) which could really cause major health issues. See long list of symptoms of iron deficiency some include: fatigue, exhaustion, mood issues, sleep issues, weight loss/weight gain, heart palpitations, breathing issues (especially with exercise or walking up stairs etc) etc etc there are over 100 symptoms of iron deficiency. this iron deficiency can happen quickly or over many months or years. 60% of those that have heart issues/attack have iron deficiency and their heart attack could have been prevented if they would have know to test for ferritin. So definitely get a "Ferritin iron deficiency" test to see if you have iron stored in your body. see yt iron deficiency stories. (Everyone should look up symptoms of iron deficiency). it's important not to supplement with iron before getting a iron deficiency test because you could end up with to much iron in the body and that is not healthy either. (the common iron test that doctors do really shows nothing. This is why you should get a Ferritin iron test and advance testing. Humans need iron to have healthy red blood cells & to make red blood cells). Iron deficiency is the #1 deficiency in the world. An estimated 1.8 BILLION citizens are iron deficienct and most doctors are cluesless about this, how to test & treat. there are 8 billion citizens in the world so approx 2 out of 8 citizens are deficient in iron. Take care.

I still have your old Proton from the C.I. factory sale some years ago. I paid $60. After some failed attempts, I was able to fix that buckle you put in the rail. The stringer was good (solid) and it still goes to this day, even after some asshole shot his board into me on a perfect wave at Rincon, straight into the glass-on Raptor Large fins. If I had ollied the guy it may have been close to the best wave of my life. Turns out, there was only minor damage to the rail and WAX on the outside of both side fins. The glass-ons held perfectly! So you can bet they acted like some teeth, cut into the guy's rail without even any spider-cracks! That is some damn fine craftsmanship from the crew at C.I. Think of it. Nowadays, most of the kids who surf are overindulgent, uber-entitled, spoiled little snots. All they ever know is new boards, off the rack or custom boards. I grew up 20 minutes from the beach. Getting to go surf has always been a luxury. The first final in a contest I ever made, I rode a $20 browned retro 80's high cut wing thruster (Not a stinger). I got 5th place and was so proud. That was the same board that split my face open. To be a part of something greater than yourself is something kids are lacking these days. All they ever care about is themselves. I say "retro 80's" board, but it was literally from Dallas St. RETRO sports off Fletcher Parkway back when they had cool used surfboards for sale. It's a whole different universe buying a board that's been broken-in already vs a corky new doinker that's gonna leave you with some mean rib bruises for the next 6 weeks. Ask yourselves which method builds more character? This is what's so special about Rincon. They don't burn the driftwood. It's used to create ART! They don't lay their natural resources to waste! Because it adds CHARACTER! Same with old boards "out of the rafters" 💯
