Fantastic. This podcast is always amazing and great to see past and present players giving such a wonderful insight into the best sport there is. I have to agree with Baz about the sanitisation of the game though. I’ve watched Wire since 93 and legitimate fans have always respected a bit of “biff”. What happens on the field always stayed on the field. I remember going in the touchdown club at the old wilderspool stadium back in the 90s. You’d see two players who had not long before been throwing haymakers at one another suddenly sharing a beer. And absolutely the speed / athleticism etc of the sport is paramount but so is the toughness which whilst we need to manage it, should not be eliminated either. The last thing League needs is constant controversy like Footy etc where people become waylaid with trivial nonsense. And let’s not forget, I grew up watching J Davies, Jason Robinson etc …. The sport has always provided some of the highest quality athletes. But I also watched Baz himself, Moz, O’Connor, Faz, Scully, and the absolute ruthlessness of the sport back then was equally important to the viewer.

Great comment. Seems like a good bloke Barrie. I did think he went a bit far on Peter Shiels in the CC semi in 2001, when he smacked him across the eye for nothing. Was really bad that
