Out on the remote Trans Access Road with Birdman Dad.

The homelands of the naretha bluebonnet parrot (Northiella narethae) are remote, hostile and extreme. Come visit their home with Birdman Dad as he travels the remote, unsealed road of the Trans Access Road. Come visit the once thriving railway towns along the TransLine including Zanthus and Naretha. Learn some history of Australia's railway past and how the forging of a railway line from South Australia to Kalgoorlie resulted in the discovery of a never seen before parrot way back in 1921.

I used to live in Rawlinna my dad was the Roadmaster and my mum the nursing sister in Rawlinna, my dad used to talk about the Naretha parrot

Thank you for showing these magnificent little ones, explaining their history, discussing their challenges, and sharing the encouragibg developments. It's heartening to know about the station families and the other people who care for them. Though the trees are having difficulties, are the saltbushes thriving? I couldn't quite tell.

Thanks for your comments. Yes the saltbushes (and bluebushes too) do very well. Saltbush is eaten by every animal out there... and there are plenty of feral animals eating them as well... so they are low/stunted but surviving. 🤞🤞 for some rain this season

I been raising Australian keets since 1979. Budgies, Cockatiels, Princess, Red Capped, Red Rumps, Scarlet Chested, Mulga. Never seen a live Blue Bonnet! Thanks for awesome video!👍👍👍

Yes it is a bit sad that so few know about Australian bluebonnets. There are 4 types and the naretha, though still limited in captivity, would have to be the easiest of the 4 to keep in captivity. None in any zoos or wildlife parks which is a concern considering the wild birds situation
