I turned 21 in 83’. I remember mostly the dancing in clubs and the fun we had there and after, when the clubs descended on Hofs Hut. Omg, what a blast! I just wish I remembered more of the 80’s; I’ve seemed to have forgotten most of that decade. 🤷♀️. 💟☮️

I am not from the United States, but I can see a completely different place and at the same time more captivating, with more darkness and more space to walk. It generates a lot of curiosity to see how people had fun with discos, prostitution and strip clubs, a more fun and energetic city is perceived. I wanted to see New York, but when I saw Nelson's videos my desire vanished. Nelson, these videos are great, I love the 80s, thanks for filming the mythical and legendary new york of the 80s.

New York on a summer night in the 80s... Love it..I can even smell it. New York had a particular smell to it. No, no, not the urine in the doorways....lol. Just the streets in general. Wasn't unpleasant, just distinctive. New York, New York...
@edeneverly25735 жыл бұрын
No, I know what you mean. It did have a smell. It was great. Indescribable. I try to focus on that rather than a later smell that really stays with me which is the smell of 9/11. God that hung in the air forever and it was awful. But these are the best of memories, the best of Manhattan. 80s East Village 4ever.

As much as I'm fascinated by Nelson's videos, and NYC in the 1980's, the conversations in most of these video's are shallow deep (at best) and viewers are left trying to make out what goals and aspirations any of them really had in life. A perpetual adolescence, it seems. And as much as it pains me to say this, Nelson seemed to be trying very hard to fit in with the "scene". I believe there's even a video where he's very upset for not being invited to a party/event - like the way a teenager would be upset for being iced out from the cool kids (mind you he was in his 30's at this point). I hope my comment doesn't pinch a nerve with others; it's just my opinion. Nelson seemed like a wonderful gentleman and I tear up watching his final video every time. What I love the most about his video's is how beautifully he captured life in the East Village/Meatpacking in the 80's. Despite the burnt out buildings and high crime rate, there was a kinder, gentler touch and raw authenticity to New Yorkers that's all but gone today.

Most of the black people who live in the hood selling drugs CARRYING GUNS AND (KILLING KILLING) each other are glorified everyday in the music that so so many Black people put out and in all the videos its showing them with guns, cars and stacks of money and these Black people are glorified by themselves and by the black music industry and by everyone who listens to these people so please stop playing the RACE CARD WHEN IT IS COMPLETELY FALSE!!!! ALSO THE REASON NELSON'S VIDEOS ARE SO POPULAR RIGHT NOW AND PEOPLE ARE SAYING HOW GREAT THESE PEOPLE ARE IS BECAUSE EVERYONE IS KISSING ASS TO THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY JUST LIKE THEY ARE KISSING ASS TO THE BLACK COMMUNITY AND THEY ARE KISSING ASS O THE BLACK COMMUNITY MY GOD LOOK AT ALL CRIMES BEING COMITED BY THE BLACK COMMUNITY AND THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERS ARE LETTING THEM GET AWAY WITH ALL OF IT BY SAYING DONT BLAME THE BLACK PEOPLE WHO DID THE CRIMES BLAME THE REPUBLICANS AND ALL THE WHITES !!!!!
