Great video. Your climate is so red and dry. Ive watched other videos of prospecting in Australia. I live in lush green mountains of NW Montana and lots of water. Dry mining and panning is a lot different. Good luck with your gold hunting adventure.

What an Action-Packed video we got this week. The Willy Willy was something else to see you chasing your cover. Great to see you detecting, digging and smelting the gold with the enthusiasm you always have. From the sounds of it you are quite happy to part with the gold for your new setup to sleep in and live, so it cannot be too much of a loss. Happy hunting out there Krissy and as always take care and see you next time for more great content. May the Gold Gods shine on you. xx

I lived in Mandurah for five years in the 2000s as a bricklayer with no labourers my wife helped me one day during summer she swallowed a fly on the job and about 5 hours later down the pub her first gulp of beer a fly came out of her mouth dead.15 years later we still laugh about it.

Give that ground you Scraped sometime and yourself and then you will be surprised what you missed in all the excitement and also the ground seems to stabilize . And go over it at night seems to be quiet , you’re more focused on your hearing, less noise from the sun. If you start getting out of focus take 10 deep breaths. It’s the key to all meditation. If you don’t make it to 10 it’s working!

Back in the gold rush days in California they would a smelting compound in the potato and throw in the cook fire. They would them break open the potato get the gold and eat the potato. Many a miner died that way.

The potato would catch the Mercury and they would crumble it and pan it off and use it again. Another little trick is to use a stick to stir the gold when it's liquid and pour it when it's still liquid. This will give you nice beads of gold and very little slag. I've done it lots of times. I worked for a jeweler who had a large jar of sweepings from the bench and he used to send it in to the refiner. I took that jar and panned it out and was able to get over 90 g of beads that tested at 14 karat. He got a much much better return on that product then he would have by just sending in the entire jar. Keep up the good work!

That was wonderful Krissy. So happy for you. I'm the same way with my gold, always need it for something. Good choice, living quarters. Many would have had a night or two on the town. Melted gold in taters like that before, only i cut the tater in half. Than i put the gold and borax with a little silica sand. It mixes with the borax and creates boro-silicate compounds. When you dump the button into the water all the slag pops off. Just less elbow grease. Also you can put the other part of the tater back on and carve a flue in it, one a the top, lay your torch on the ground with the tip going into the flue, and let her rip. Melts faster, cleaner, therefore cheaper. :-)

Just use charcoal as a melting block. No need to waste a potato! Borax is just a flux for removing surface oxidation, nothing to do with melting point. Make sure you get a spinning bead, then cool. Clean off borax slag with dilute acid. Pure gold melts at a slightly higher temperature than native nuggets containing copper, silver, zinc, etc. (Potatoes can be used as a sketchy method to cook off mercury used during mining.) I've worked with gold alloys for years, if you're wondering.
