Don't know if you can or will answer this question but I have an old Johnson J70ELCIM, it has the old unregulated rectifier on it. I purchased the new CDI rectifier Regulator for it. I was unaware that it would have a grey tach wire to it. Is it ok to connect it to the grey terminal post and use it with no tach? Also if I were to install a tach, would I need to run a signal cable. I am not understanding how the Grey wire on the Rectifier/regulator gets the signal to the tach

Hi, great video. I've got a 1998 Johnson 90 that the tach worked when I bought it 2 years ago. Now when I start the boat the needle moves to 1 but when I accelerate it goes to zero. The light works on it too. I did put a new fuse panel in last year but why would the tach go back to zero when accelerating? Any help is appreciated.

Question regarding Trim Tilt Gauge: 97 Evirude 90 SPL - turn key trim tilt gauge goes full up and stays there, when the key is turned off, it goes back. The sensor arm was stuck and was not moving, so I lubed it and its moving freely now but the gauge stays in full up position. Any thoughts??? How can I check if the sensor is good?? Thanks againn

Are all 3 power wires on back of tach or just one? And a earth?

I want to hook up a tach to my 1968 Mercury 650S. The brown tach signal wire doesn’t seem to bring anything up, and my outboard doesn’t have a stator or a rectifier. It was in that transition year that they had the kind of self running setup with or without a battery. I don’t know where the connection Point would be as the brown wire connects with the salmon wire in the connector, then only the salmon wire goes to the box. The box has a total of 5 connections, 6 if you include the body ground. 3 for the distributor (lightning energizer) and 2 go to the coil. Where would I hook a wire to for tach signal? The salmon wire on the engine side hooks up to the blue distributor wire along with the engine’s mercury switch. Not sure what the distributor wires are supposed to be for as far as what does what.

Would you know if there is a unit or if it is possible to make a unit that can take all that analog information and convert it into digital? Engine temp and RPM's. I have a 1998 60 HP outboard 2 stroke motor and would like to use my Humminbird unit dash feature. So I would need to somehow convert the analog information to digital and then run it to a NMEA 2000 system then into my Humminbird Unit. Some of my thoughts are, maybe using a Rasberry pie or an Arduino or maybe you might know if there is something out there that already does this?

hey man, i got a 1989 seaox with a johnson 150, my tach (the same as yours) is getting power and my fuel gauge works, But can you tell me where my rectifier would be located? all the wiring on my dash is sound, but i need to make sure my connection coming from it is good.

If you Google Evinrude rectifier images youl see how it looks in the engine. Itl either be the circular one with 2 screw hopes or the silver brick thing. The older ones had the smaller circular thing.

Hello My boat RPM gauge showing me correctly till about 4000 rpm than become inaccurate. Its goes till 6200 but should read 5400 i checked with additional tachometer. Any idea what is wrong? Thanks

My tach seems to have power to it when I turn the key over it will move, but nothing when the motor is running. Any ideas

Possibly the tach is connected to power but not the sending unit wire from the engine? This way it moves a little bit when you turn the key meaning "power on", but is not actually receiving any data.
