That part about the balancing (both static on the parallel bars, and spinning on a drill) was very helpful! Thanks from Canada!

This is a great video! There's not much information around about balancing and fixing propellers at home. So thanks! I don't have access to the machinery needed to make a prop balancing tool. So I just bought a simple MSW static wheel balancer for motorcycle wheels to balance my props. Not that expensive and should work fine for boat propellers even though designed for wheels.

Hi mate, Thanks for your comments 👌 I have another video on balancing at home with two levels if that helps. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Great work….(replace the grinder cord) and LOVING the hand drill tester!
@25hpboatracerman3 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, I love playing with props! Good call with the grinder cord, I did replace that then the gear case on it blew, I do use them a ridiculous amount. Got a Makita 100mm now which is going ok. All the best

@@25hpboatracerman it’d be interesting to see what kind of tools you use. Welder set in particular (what wire stock do you use?). The aluminum boat repair vid was good and something a lot of diy might be interested in. I see plenty of inexpensive tin boats with horrible patches that look potentially seaworthy! I think we all appreciate that you launch into the work and using basic tools! Thanks again!

Hi mate and cheers, The welder I used on the props is a 195 amp (Migomag 195ce) good quality machine running 0.9mm ally wire and pure argon shielding gas, oh and a Teflon liner (instead of the Normal steel spring) better for aluminium. I actually built a 13ft ski boat with a 125hp Mariner with that mig about 18 years ago. I now have an awesome tig as well 200 amp ( Unimig razor ac dc 200). Running pure argon shielding as well. It is actually better than the mig for repairs and can see the mig being used less and less. I built a lovely 316 stainless steel transom rail with teak rear seat with the tig for a classic yacht last year, so much fun. Enjoy yourself mate. Glenno

I have a prop with a 4mm deep x 12mm long chip out of the leading edge. Can this be trimmed and the other blades trimmed to match and then balanced or does it need to be welded and then trimmed and balanced? It’s for 9.9 hp Mercury on a small fishing boat.

What do you use to clean the propeller when you first start? Paint solvent?

I dont understand how you're mig welding aluminum... is that aluminum wire?
@25hpboatracerman5 ай бұрын
Hi Mate, Yes, aluminium wire and pure argon shielding gas. A lot of aluminium welding is done via mig, most of the plate alloy boats too. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Thanks for the video. Curious to know your opinion on the repairs made with the aluminium melting rods and a torch?? Are they reliable?
@25hpboatracerman Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for you comments 👍 I have not used the aluminum melting rods but have heard that they are ok to get yourself out of trouble. personally I’m happy to try new stuff and see how it goes then if it was to fail, cut it off and weld it. cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

You really need a welding table. It will do wonders for your back
@25hpboatracerman4 жыл бұрын
So true mate. I’ve been doing a lot of stainless tig work lately and I set up a welding table, very awesome. Even have a seat for some of it. I have to consider comfort when I’m focused on a job before I start, I get pretty into things. Cheers and good point. Glenno

hi what is the welding filler rod your are using to recharge the blade?
@ranger1783 жыл бұрын
any substitutes for an actual propeller shaft ? or someplace to get one that is not a fortune for a brand new one id like to check my blades that are fairly new they seem unbalanced . also your giving me a back ache just watching you work on the floor lol
@25hpboatracerman3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, Any shaft that is true and fits snug in the prop splines is fine to do the balance test. Just set up two levels to place the shaft with prop on. 😂 yeah, I do a bit of grinding on the ground, The older I get the less I do it though. Hope you can sort your prop mate. 👍
@saxon7034 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate nice video what setup do you running for welding aluminium with a Mig? -wire size and brand - Mig gun tip size Cheers saxon
@25hpboatracerman Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I use both mig and tig. The mig setup is a Migomag 195 amp running 0.9mm wire with a 1mm tip, not sure on the wire brand. Also it has a Teflon core for the ally wire to feed through, instead of the normal spiral steel spring thing between the machine and the handle (apparently it stops the wire sticking) Argon gas with either syrup. The tig is a unimig 200amp and I use 2.4mm filler rods. Cheers Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Nice video...to you ever mess around with doing your own cupping?

Yep, done a lot of reshaping- cupping etc. I love playing with props and seeing what a little change can do for performance. Cheers
