I own two of these 6hp motors. One is a 1969 Evinrude and the other is the 1969 Johnson. Purchased both as non-running engines but after carb rebuilds and a tune up, they both run great. Easy to maintain motors.

It's now going to be a museum piece. BRP is bleeding money and is finally admitting defeat in selling off most of their marine brands. They really have no clue how to make good business decisions on building marine engines and drive systems. The BRP Rotax 150 Ghost is the nail in the coffin. Instead of actually listening to potential customers and dealers, they did it their own way and failed miserably.

Would using weaved fiberglass be stronger
@25hpboatracerman17 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, Yeah weaved fiberglass is great, double bias is stronger I reckon for some applications. The weave is very strong on two directions. A combination of both is the best. With my little boat, it will be super strong as the stringers along with the floor will create a truss system plus I’ve added two extra stringers and cross stringers. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

@25hpboatracerman19 күн бұрын
Do you have an electric choke wired up? When you turn the key to on, (motor off) try pushing it and listen for a click which will be the electro magnet actuating the choke. Even check with the cover off. You should be able to see something connected to the choke too. If not, look into getting a choke solenoid. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Dear aussi boat guy, i was wondering about your remark on the prop shape of the exhaust part, you said only at low speed this wil cause cavitation. Helps to cut it of for drag? Or am i wrong? Regards, emil 😅
@25hpboatracerman19 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, We do remove it for racing but with racing props the blade shape is different and has less cavitation than a standard prop too. On a stock prop it does help at all speeds but more at low speed. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎
@reliantscimitar13017 күн бұрын
@@25hpboatracerman thats not what i would aspect. Reducing drag by cutting the diameter of the outlet will give gain only at low speed.. weird😀
@25hpboatracerman16 күн бұрын
I mean it helps reduce cavitation more at low speeds on stock props not talking about actual speed gains. Straight speed is not worth it if as soon as you turn it cavitates. Good question though. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

@@25hpboatracerman Sorry to hear about your facebook woes. The Suzuki 15 came with a boat I bought- very tight, low hours motor and the more I look at it, the more I like it. I only weighs 33Kg, so its very lightweight. The crank and powerunit looks like it is well up to spinning at a few more K RPM without worries. I am about to start on phase two- I CNC reprofiled the heads with squishband and high comp.. its is destined to be a twin carb motor i.e taking it as far as possible without external exhaust trumpets. Really busy with work, so It will take a while though.

Hello master I need your guidance. For the Tohatsu m18e2, the cylinder head bolts are m8x40. During the tightening process, what torque do you apply with a torque wrench in newton-meters and kilograms? 🍻
@25hpboatracerman19 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, I torque the 8mm to 18.1 ft pounds and 6mm to 6.5ft pounds. I would definitely check if this is suitable for your motor. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Hi man I have been following for a while, I’m on a debate right now on upgrading from a 8hp to a 9.8, I want to get on plain with 3 ppl and also get higger speds with 2 ppl, do you have a notable difference with 2 extra hp, thanks man!!
@25hpboatracermanАй бұрын
Hi Mate, Unfortunately if the 8hp isn’t super super close to planing the 9.8 really doesn’t have much more so don’t expect it to get up on the plane with three unless the 8 is just off the plane. Remember they are the same capacity and same motor but the 9.8hp just has a few better bits, I personally find them pretty similar, not a massively noticeable amount of power difference, torque is fairly similar too. On the other hand the 9.9hp is a totally different beast with nearly an extra 100cc capacity as it shares its block with the 15hp, the 18hp looks the same but is a bigger capacity again, all the 9.9 through to 18hp are a fair bit heavier than the 6-8 and 9.8 at 42kgs for the short shaft version. If you are after safety getting three on the plane I would consider the 15 or 18 (or 15 Mercury super which is an 18 tohatsu if you find the Japan built one) if your hull allows Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

@@25hpboatracerman the thing here is that I live in Baja a travel quite a lot with it, I like the 8hp block cuz it’s the lightest of all outboards, so I want to travel, light weight, be a bit faster and if possible plane with 3 ppl, do you get higger rpms with the 9.8 than the 8? Higger speeds while planing?

@25hpboatracermanАй бұрын
Yep, pretty normal. There is a dog clutch in all outboards that just engages the gears, it’s all or nothing, no real clutch just teeth that push into slots so either no prop shaft spin or full engage, no soft mesh. A heavier prop (like stainless) can sound worse out of the water. It’s all fine as long as your revs are low. Will sound worse out of the water too. Good idea to check or change your gear oil too while you’re thinking about the lower unit. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Hi Champion, I used to do that, but I find leaving the carbs full and running the motor every few months works best for me. 👍 Reason is with more than one carb, some will have residual fuel left in them which will dry out leaving jelly way quicker than if the fuel bowls where full. @@25hpboatracerman i only have 1 carb on my current engines. When i had johnson oceanrunner 150s the 2 stroke mixture in the bowls would evaporate the gas and leave behind the oil in the bowla gumming them up, so they had drain screws on the bowls and i would have to manually drain each carb, all 6 of them before storing. 😁💦🛥️
