The CSIS Australia Chair cordially invites you to a discussion on Outcomes and Implications of the 2024 Solomon Islands Election.
Monday, May 20, 2024, 4:00 pm-5:00 pm EDT
In recent years the Solomon Islands, under its previous Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, has begun to look to China to meet its economic and security needs in a way that has concerned many of its traditional partners. The April national elections resulted in a change in Prime Minister, but not party, with Jeremiah Manele, the former foreign minister, taking the reins. Despite the international attention on the geo-strategic implications of this election, many Solomon Islanders voted on issues much closer to home, such as a stagnating economy, lack of opportunity, and insufficient health infrastructure.
To assess the implications of this election's result both domestically and internationally, please join CSIS Senior Fellow Kathryn Paik on Monday, May 20 at 4 pm EST for a discussion with Alan Tidwell, Anouk Ride, Anna Powles, and Tarcisius Kabutaulaka.
CSIS's Australia Chair conducts independent policy research aimed at strengthening U.S.-Australia relations. The Chair is endowed through the generosity of Pratt Industries.

😊Excellent panel discussion. Hoping suggestions for areas of US support to Solomon Islands can be futher prioritised and delivered.Other than peace corps engagement rather support more meaningful initiatives to impact livelihood of citizens.
