I finally got my hands on some hatchets by Gransfors Bruk! This video is a comparison between the Outdoor Axe vs. Small Hatchet (used to be called Mini Hatchet). The Outdoor Axe feels like a more serious axe/hatchet for woodworks, and the Small Hatchet seems like it would be perfect for leisure activities such as camping, backpacking and hiking. Even though they both have a similar sized head, I can tell they each have a very specific usage. Personally for my use I really liked the Small Hatchet for its portability.

Yeah. Too short for my liking in this case. I'd prefer longer or none. :)

The part of the bit you thought was a nick is not, it's just a spot that formed during the foraging process. They both are nice, I own the outdoor axe. The small hatchet is nice but I really think you would love the wildlife hatchet, It's a little bigger.

Yeah i knew what it was, just didnt know what to call it, other than a nick…! I got the SFA so i wanted something very small. Been waiting for the weekly pre-order pool by Liam Hoffman for months now so i can get my hands on a craft carver or the mini camper. Will def make an unboxing video about it!

@@DaveLeeKnivesYea that's what I'm also looking to get is one of the Liam Hoffman smaller axes. Not sure what one to go with for his 3 smaller axes but they are definitely awesome. Also looking into the Northmen Guild hatchet.

I'm an old Italian hiker and hunter and I always had a small hatchet with me. Because I' m also an axes collector I have seversl Gransfors axes and hatchets and one Outdoor Axe. I tried it several times to cut with it wood for a fire and other camping chores and it did properly what was meant to do. The only real problem is its outrageous price; in Italy 135,00 euro. Yes the manufacturing is fantastic but the steel according the producer is "recicled steel" and not valuable steel coming from Swedish ore as they hint in their brochures. All in all their steel looks like a C70 steel with about 0,7 C 0.7 Mn 0.25 Si. Basicallyi it's a cheap steel good for the purpose of building an axe but not real renowm swedish steel. I have an Italian hatchet built with C70 steel with similar and for me better handling caracteristics than Gransfors Outdoor and it costs 30,0 euro. All the features duration and cutting properties have resulted after a long use and abuse the same. So how can Gransfors justify a 100,0 euro difference between the relative prices? If Gransfors people read this notes I should like a direct answer from them! Perhaps the answer is that they produce for collectors, like me, who can pay for an item beautiful to collect but not for the everyman who cuts wood for business or household use!.

Wow thank you for the detailed feedback…!!!! Can you tell me the Italian hatchet you mentioned? I only have one knife made from Italy, which is the Lionsteel M4 in m390… its a great knife for sure! I trust the quality in everything that says ‘made in Italy’

Very nice, I’ve always wanted a Gransfors Bruk forest axe. If you like tomahawks you should check the ones out by CRKT.

Ive reallllly considered getting the Chogan several times for the price point……. But personally, without the intent to offend you or anyone who may be reading this, I try to buy Made in USA as much as possible, if not then companies with heritage from Sweden, Japan and so on…!

I bought an outdoor axe yesterday and it's being shipped. I'm looking forward to it! 스몰 포레스트(420)를 사려 했는데 매물이 없어서 추천 받아 산 425 기대중인데 나쁘지 않아보이네요 !

SFA is definitely a superb tool, just not small enough to pack it around. I think you will be very pleased with the outdoor axe but only thing is that the axe head feels slightly small, so if u dont have good aim its easy to miss the target… So i would just be sure to get the legs positioned out of the way.

I have a GB Mini Hatchet, a Wildlife Hatchet and a Small Forest Axe, and I've been thinking about getting the Outdoor Axe too. The Mini Hatchet and Wildlife Hatchet are phenomenal tools, and if physically carrying stuff, I wouldn't want anything above the Wildlife Hatchet. The SFA feels like something else entirely (in a good way) though I wouldn't like to carry one far. My Mini is my favourite GB tool.

I haven’t experienced the Wildlife Hatchet but the Outdoor axe is very similar to the mini, except you know how the mini hatchet is for a specific limited tasks? The outdoor axe can get a lot of force behind the bit due to longer handle so its definitely a more capable all-rounder…

@@DaveLeeKnives Really liking the handle shape and grip on my Mini and Wildlife Hatchets, I'm concerned that the Outdoor Axe has a handle that's way too thin, something which has been mentioned by numerous owners and reviewers. A Wildlife Hatchet handle the length of the Outdoor Axe handle would seem perfect. For making camp fire and tent stove fuel, a Mini Hatchet and a Silky Saw are fine.

Yeah if you have big hands definitely will seem too skinny and might have to stress over not losing grip and flying off! I never had the wildlife hatchet then i assume youre set for any light tasks!
