AJK Aquaria your males don't fight? My male easterns fight occasionally. Mine live in my backyard and have enough room to escape each other. My fence is buried two feet underground and set in concrete. I have strawberries and raspberries and cherry tomatoes planted in my yard. I also give them nightcrawlers, superworms and dubia cockroaches. They also find their own bugs and worms. My yard has no shortage of worms and insects. One of mine ate a baby bird that fell from the bird house and died. I only have four turtles. Two males and two female's. Like I said they have well enough room to avoid each other if they want.

Joshua Hull There is some aggression between males. Nothing severe. They're now in a 16x24' enclosure. Your setup sounds great.

Well done AJK, brought back memories of my Box Turtle "Pretty Girl" Had her for 20 years and one day went out to her pen I built and she was gone. Not sure if she finally figured out a way to get out or a hawk got her. She was always on the move walking the perimeter of the 6x6 encloser. Yes they do like to move around when it rains, I think it let them seek out the worms and bugs in the soft soil. Anyway thank you so much for sharing and the memories....

Sorry to hear she was missing. I doubt a hawk did the dead. 4"+ is usually the safe zone. I'll run the sprinkler in dry times or just cuz. Really brings out the activity

Osmun Reptiles Not yet... Lots of breeding last year but only saw one female laying eggs. Did not pull them but searched in that area in November and had discovered that they were rotten and did not hatch.

I've raised and breed easterns for about 30 years now and had numerous enclosures. This is by far the best one I've ever seen. I despise people who keep em inside in a damn fish tank to a Rubbermaid tote or a mortar pan. These are outside pets.

Holy smoke! This is an amazing enclosure. I just got done planting my indoor enclosure for my Easterns but it has nothing on this one and I thought 8ft by 2ft was big. 😳

Thank you. 8x2 is pretty big for indoors. Lot more freedom to go bigger outside. We moved and had to build another 3 toe enclosure. 16x24.' There's a video about it on this same channel.

Love this turtle habitat! I live in Arkansas and came across two box turtles in my yard this summer. I have been trying to create a natural habitat planting fig trees, blueberries and wildflowers. Right now I have them in an enclosed courtyard area at my front entrance and they seem to be doing fine. They love live worms and I love feeding them. My main concern is hibernation. Here in AR, it gets pretty cold and worried about predators getting them. I also feed birds in this courtyard area and noticed we have rats at night eating birdseed. I hired a professional to set bait boxes and think we took care of this problem. Do I need to bring them inside during the winter or should I build an enclosed habitat outside. They are such fascinating little creatures. Named them George and Georgette and I've seen them mating several times so know they are male and female. Guess I have the turtle fever. I also have dogs so it would have to be enclosed..any suggestions? Thank you!

Lynda Hogan Dogs and turtles are generally a no go. At this point I'm guessing you have done some research regarding hibernation, etc. Sorry for replying so late.

William Rudder Thank you. Northern Illinois. I had the same suspicion as you, wondering if some of the animals are integrades. The seller assured me that these were pure 3 toeds, stating that they originate from an area in S. Mississippi that has very colorful animals. Box Turtles are extremely variable, but without a DNA test I can never be 100% on any animal.

ChrisDaFish Sorry for the late reply. I let them wind down and dig in. Once the temps start getting to freezing I move them to a dedicated fridge and keep them at 40 degrees F. I'll wake them up once temps stabilize around mid 40s at night and move them back outside. So pretty much November to April they sleep away

Does the electric wire function when the wood is dry? Very nice enclosure. Predators can ruin the experience.

James King Thank you. Indeed it did, but the shock was not as severe from wire to wood as wire to ground. I moved and built a new enclosure. There's a video on my channel showing how I did the electric wire differently; mounted on the outside. Ensures all critters get the full jolt.
