I think your bottom bed should be herbs and easy to grow vegies. My thoughts would be lavender, basil and rosemary for the scent, lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes for the food, nasturtiums and other edible flowers for the colour.

Hi! I am an avid gardener, but south east. I highly recommend looking up plants native to your area. That will increase the native pollinators and help the ecosystem. They’ll also be more low maintenance than a plant that isn’t native to your soil/climate. Look for native pollinator plants that are companion plants to one another (I usually pick three per area, and two of each of those species). Then in another area, plant another companion collection to build a diverse garden. 🐝

As a self taught gardener and someone who loves an eclectic mix of plants I would give the advice to not focus on the flowers but on the leaf variations of your plants. Typically then your garden will always look beautiful and if anything flowers that's a bonus. If you study garden magazines you'll see gardens with an array of plants with different leaf colours, not just flower colours. Take a look at coral bells. They're easy to grow and keep to there own little "mound". They have incredible variations of leaf colours from bright red, to pinkish, to bright and dark greens, browns and purples to al out black. Sometimes people do just gardens of different coral bells. Plus they get the most whimsical flowers. They would do so well along the bottoms of your gardens with the ivy - depending of course on that slope. Good luck! ❤ P.S. I've recently fallen in love with "Black Pearl" coral bells and they might add some variation without taking away from your other plants and colours.

pay attention to how the sun moves through your backyard and get plants that love shade for under your trees and sun loving for closer to the house, I don’t think a rose will thrive in that corner because most need full sun, 6-8 hours at least. But know that you can change and move plants whenever you want, nothing is permanent and don’t feel bad! Looking so cozy!!

MaCenna, to avoid disappointment with gardening, make sure your plants are appropriate for the space you are planting them in. Roses like a lot of sun, gardenia and camellias do better in the shade. The corner that you have your seating looks pretty shaded. Also, be sure to amend your soil before planting new things. Good luck. Looks beautiful, always feel inspired after watching your videos
@PilotCristina

Yup amend the soil. I’ve learned that the hard way where I live. I wondered why plants weren’t thriving or dying. It was the clay soil that some plants don’t like. At the places where I had raised beds with beautiful soil the plants always did better.

You can dry the lavender by hanging it upside down with twine! It looks so cute! And then - crush up the dry lavender, add it to a mason jar with white vinegar, cover and let it infuse for 2 weeks. Then strain the lavender-infused vinegar (to get rid of the dry lavender bits) into a glass spray bottle of half lavender-infused vinegar and half filtered water. And now you have an all-purpose cleaning spray! Lavender is awesome for cleaning! I grow lavender and have been doing this for the past two years ✨❤

Shade. Shade is why most of your plants are not thriving, All the plants you have there, geranium, agapanthus etc require full sun to perform best. A rose will also suffer because it needs full sun. Research shade plants for your area and plant those instead.

Don’t forget to seal up the holes from the dish! Your flower beds probably need something like mushroom dirt to add nutrients to the soil. When you choose plants consider how much room the roots need to flourish. It doesn’t look like there is much room for larger plants on the bottom bed. Your patio looks so much better! I really love the lights.

Camellias are shade loving plants that can go to part shade when older. They are beautiful, but those geraniums are goners. They need more sun. Move them before they die. Poor things. ATTENTION, plants that say they are poisonous need to be removed with animals. Kinsley may not eat them but with some plants even rubbing up against them can be harmful, dogs do lick themselves, they sniff plants roll in them, I couldn't bear watching your show and you having to tell us Kinsley is not well. Take note of those plants and talk to your vet and see what their recommendations are, I know how much Kinsley means to you. I do work at a greenhouse and we always ask our costumers if they have children or pets when recommended what they should plant. Don't take it that it won't happen to Kinsley look at it that I can just not have to worry if I make my environment save in the first place KINSLEY comes first. When watching your videos watch how Kinsley likes to wander through the garden, she doesn't know one plant from another!!!!! Also if your going to plant edibles in your garden make sure they are not planted near any of these poisonous plants either!!!!! Love you all, keep safe❤👵🇨🇦

MaCenna, do not be afraid to cut all the Ivy way back. When you cut it back, then clean underneath. Your other plants need to be taken out, and the soil needs to be refreshed. Fertilize your flowering plant in early spring and again around September. I use Bio-tone. It is hard to over fertilize your plants with Bio-tone. You don't want to kill your plants with too much fertilizer. If you want to wait until next year, just make sure you fertilize your plants as soon as possible.

Your agapanthus look healthy enough. They come from South Africa (where I live) and they are extremely hardy. They should bloom around mid-summer. Something to consider with the colour of the flowers is that they don't all bloom at the same time. This means that you can have one colour scheme for summer and a different one for winter. You are clearly going to be an excellent gardener and I so agree with you, gardening makes you feel alive. It is very creative, but the difference is that plants never quite grow the way you think they will and the garden looks different month to month. I don't think anyone can ever be depressed if they have a garden they look after. I love the way your backyard now looks. Those lights look magical! You are just so talented.

If you can afford, get a gardener that would help you clean up all the weeds, cut and shape trees, bushes, etc get rid of all the ivy it spreads like crazy and kills anything and everything that's around, instead you can plant more colorful grasses there. Trees need to be trim to add more light and avoid falling down. Once your gardener put your garden in good shape it would be easier for you to maintain it. Just a thought!!

Absolutely love how it turned out with the colors, lights and candles! 😃 another thought for the candles though, if you were to spread them out, you could use citronella candles to give off a nice smell and keep bugs/ mosquitos away 😊

I got proper secret garden vibes with Kinsley coming down the steps at the end! You have created such a magical space, I swear you could take a back alley in a city and make it look beautiful! Also so sweet to see Romeo loving on Kinsley! I’m so used to seeing Kinsley as a little Mamas girl, but she clearly loves her Daddy too!

I love how you keep it natural and blended into the space. The outdoor decor isn't "screaming" in your face. It looks like it would feel as if you're nestled into a cozy garden. LOVE!!!! 🥰

Please be careful with real fire inside those wicker structures next to the chairs. I'd use artificial light in those. Avoid fire accidents from those gusts of "Santa Ana winds" Looks peaceful and Kinsley seems to really be enjoying the garden.

Why not put Hostas in terracotta pots up the steps. They like shade and there are so many shapes and colours of green or even Heuchera. Maybe some lights around the trunk of your tree in the corner by the chairs.. have fun

I would definitely recommend applying polymeric sand for the brick patio, that would close up any cracks and look really clean I love how this garden area is already turning out 😊

Give the Ivy a little trim. But remember it will grow back VERY quickly. When you asked us to suggest some plants & products like fertilizer, potting soil, fungicide, I Always use the brand called ( BONIDE ). ITS PET FRIENDLY, NOT SO HARD ON THE ENVIRONMENT, ALL THERE PRODUCTS ARE AMAZING!!! I made a list on your last video of all the best plants 🌱. That will be beautiful in your yard. Perennials, Annuals, & Shrubs. Like my favorite flower ever. Hydrangeas 🌺. 🍓 Strawberries, are beautiful and look so beautiful in containers. Lighting 💡 ideas: I love to use large bamboo sticks in my yard. They are really natural, Very Strong, they last forever, & you can get them at any hardware store. 🌱🎋 🌿 I ordered dishes “ in the same color” on Friday!! Seeing them outside in natural light makes them even more beautiful. I’m soo excited to get them!!

Beautiful! Not enough sunlight = "unhealthy" plants. Easy to move to a sunny spot. Consider some hostas, huchera (coral bells) - so many beautiful varieties of both. Any shade loving plants.

McCenna I can't!! You getting into gardening on top of all your other skills. Love your table setting and candle holders. Find your south/sunny n north/ shady garden sides. Roses, lavender, olive trees require a minimum of 6 hrs of sun to thrive. Camelia are shade loving. For color and height a Japanese maple would be stunning. Moss usually means a shady damp area.

I see lots of shade in that corner with your two chairs. You need full sun for roses (6-8 hours or more). Try some hydrangeas or other shade loving plants. Or look for scented herbs that will grow in the shade. The shady area where no plants were…2 possible reasons why the plants died: first it could be too shady, secondly the avocado tree might be stealing all the water. My tip is to observe the patio area and see how much sun you get in the different zones and then read the tags on any new plants to see if they will grow in the conditions you have. Looking forward to seeing how your new home develops ❤

A fountain or a cement statue would look good in that corner as a focal point. Love the tablescape and lights. A small table, bakers rake or butlers cart would be great as a side server and bar. Maybe under the windows?

You do have to fertilize your trees and plants in order to get them to bloom and produce fruit but you have to treat your trees so you’ll be able to eat from them you don’t want bugs in your fruit trees
