In this HVAC Training Video, I Explain all the Parts on this American Standard Trane Outdoor Heat Pump! This unit did not have an Accumulator or a Charge Compensator. It just had a standard Muffler on the Discharge Line! I go over the Dual Run Capacitor, Start Capacitor, 5,2,1 Potential Relay, Contactor, Reversing Valve, True Suction Port, Vapor Service Valve, Liquid Service Valve, Muffler, Compressor, Thermal limit Switch, Low Pressure Switch, Thermostat Wiring, Filter Drier, Coil Temp Sensor, Ambient Temp Sensor, Defrost Control Board, and the Fan Motor! Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while performing tasks as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

Excellent video! I have this same heat pump. It didn't work well below 40. Just figured thats how they work. Then I got to inspecting it more. I found the defrost temp sensor on the coil hanging out of the little tube.... No wonder it wasn't defrosting properly. I zip tied it back and now heat pump works much much better.

At 8:40 you mentioned that a Thermistor operates the same way that a Type-K Thermocouple does. I fear this may be a little confusing. Thermistors change their resistance value at different temperatures. Resistance may decrease or increase depending on the type of Thermistor. RTDs are similar. Thermocouples create a tiny current which changes with temperature. They are both temperature probes but they do so using completely different effects. Thanks for the great content! I really like your video. It's excellent. I learned so much.

A dehumidifier is just an AC optimized to condense moisture out of the air as it flows over the evaporator, generally by reduced airflow so the air has more contact time. So just look at videos on finding shorts in AC systems, they'll still apply.

Great video. But I'm saddened at how immensely complex these systems have becoming in recent years. They used to be so simple and easy to purchase and swap out parts. Now their complexity makes it harder and harder for DIY servicing. With so many intricate little parts and subsystems, there is a far greater chance of something going wrong, which means a far higher chance of having to maintain a yearly budget for calling out an AC repair person to "service" a unit that is supposed to last at least 10-15 years (20 if well maintained). In Florida, I may turn on my heat briefly *maybe* twice a year, if that. Why would someone want all this complexity with so many parts that could fail when they could instead have a simple electric coil furnace for that couple of days when its needed. The so-called "energy efficiency" argument is meaningless when it is almost never used, and electricity usage would never be enough to outweigh the additional cost of an unused heat pump system.
@lenpoulin5034
@lenpoulin5034 Жыл бұрын
A good argument for mostly warm climates. In that case, I agree. I would just do a straight A/C system without the heat pump, and use electric (or gas) for occasional heat use. Disclaimer, I do multi-unit maintenance. I'm not an HVAC guy.
@allach1772
@allach1772 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your argument, however it’s not that hard to learn. I am not hvac tech but like hvac as a hobby, this indeed takes time to learn, but once you spend maybe 4 years diy it yourself, it becomes a lot easier. In Florida yes don’t make sense just grab ceramic heater for sure.
