Right now I'm looking through my window and I'm looking at a young welder working on my neighbor's porch building a porch rail. He is doing it right on the ground. You are 100% correct, at our age, it pays to have a good welding table.😁

Great video. Why not use a portaband for those cuts? Also maybe a flaring jig for the radius pieces might help keep the ends flush. Strong work thanks for sharing.

Before you tack the arches you can put bar stock or something inside the ends and pry out to make it a closer fitup.

Great one Jimbo. If you wanted the gate to be fixed to the arbor you could weld one of the hinges upside down so they are opposed

Jimbo... Luv your channel. We like you too much to see you put yourself at risk. You can afford to buy a 6 in or 9 in grinder. It's not just the lack of a guard. It's the fact that the larger wheels are rated for lower RPM so there is a VERY good chance that the wheel will blow up even if you "take your time and go easy". And safety glasses aren't going to help you one bit if one of those wheels let's go.

Hey Jimbo, Couldn't your metal supplier start in the middle of an XX ft piece of tubing, bend the radius and leave the ends straight and parallel to each other? You wouldn't have to weld on the sides and fill in the gap. Nice job, it turned out beautiful.

probably add quiet a bit to the processing price, i needed a 3ft arc section out 1" sq 12 ga steel and they priced it for 168 dollars 2 YEARS AGO! So i just ended up making my own sq tube bender and i can easily do 12 ga tubing and have done 1 and 2 in sq

Hey Jimbo, do you run 90/10 on the thinner materials you weld? 75/25 will give better penetration so I'm guessing you're using the 90/10 to lesson burn through and spatter on thinner gauge material. Or, is my hypothesis completely off?

Plain metal looks "industrial", but in the last picture painted it does look rather nice - especially if the homeowner will plant some vines to go over the top of it. Also the decor you installed looks much better after paint, it almost looks is those bars would have been forged & twisted. Well done!

Try to use a Diamond Metal Wheel. It will last much longer, will not get smaller while cutting and it can not shatter into pieces. This configuration should be less dangerous even without a guard.

I've been watching a bunch of your older videos and like what you do a lot. However, I find it frustrating when you spec out the metal but don't mention it's thickness. ie "I have a 2 inch by 1 inch rectangular tube, I'm going to turn into a gate.... " but you don't mention how thick 1/8, 16 gauge, .065 ? This video starts with you saying you have 1 1/2 square tube (how thick?). Thanks. Keep up the good work.

That way that they roll that tubing looks like a lazy way to do it. When I used to do this we capped one end of the tube and filled it with sand and cap the other end roll it cut the caps off and a perfect roll with no concaving much better roll.

Try to put a sand inside the tube then weld before you bend it.

Jimbo, could you share any knowledge about doing a keyless entry door latch, the kind of box you might order from King Metals or some other site? Share any pitfalls you concern yourself with when considering such an addition? I’ve been watching and enjoying your videos the past year+ and really respect your opinion & content! Thx in advance for your thoughts!

Find the latch you wanna purchase and see what size hole is needed to go thru a regular door. Then order the latch box with the correct diameter hole and it should be as easy as installing it in a regular door.

@@HiddenInTheNoise I installed a keyless that was taller than any lock box I could find. I welded on an extension and ground smooth.
