The Ultimate Welding and Metal Fabrication Fixture Table Build! I'm going to show you how you can build your own precision welding fixture table and welding clamps for a fraction of the cost of buying a name brand kit. I started out with some plate steel that I picked up for the price of scrap metal at my local scrap yard. Then I purchased some 5/8 shoulder bolts that will fit the 5/8" holes we drill in the table. Lastly we modify some F-Clamps and turn them into quality fixture clamps. The key to getting this table perfect was the drilling template I built. This is an easy DIY do it yourself build. You can use this template method to build any size fabrication table you want and it will always turn out perfect! If you don't have a mag drill, you can always rent one!

I am working on this man! Made the template and did a couple holes yesterday. I only have 1/4” hot rolled plate - 2’ x 4’ and am doing the drilling on it. Figure good practice. I am a beginner and happy to be learning. I have the same mag drill and the evolution 15” chop saw. Thanks for the help. I will keep you posted.

That's awesome- only thing that I would need to do, since I don't have a hydraulic lift table, is weld 4 legs onto the square tubing on the underside of the table, then I'd be set. Maybe even tack a piece of quarter inch to one of the legs for my work lead to clamp to so that it's out of the way. That template for the holes in the table is very smart- good job.

Great video Brandon. Can I give you few ideas? All those kind of tables I've seen here in Europe have 2 different hole patterns ,one is 16 to 18mm in your case ⅝" , and another one right in the middle 10mm threaded holes in your case I believe ⅜" . This would allow you to use machinist clamps to be able to clamp down your work even if there's no space for the clamp . Another thing that might be useful is a couple of squares , something to clamp stuff perfectly perpendicular to your surface. Another thing not related to your fabrication table but useful as well Spreading clamps , just a reverse F clamp . Other than that , I can't wait for your next video . Have a nice weekend

Nice one👍🏻👍🏻 Looking exactly like what I did for my 6' x 3' table. Time consuming but well worth it. I did exactly the same with the initial line lay out as well. Once I had the jig set properly, I didn't need the lines, but was nice to have. 96 holes and the annular cutter was just fine. Have had fun making various Clamps. The best one I did, I think, was converting a large Vice Grip into a 5/8" pin grip. Works great. This was so Déjà Vu. Great job Brandon👍🏻👍🏻 🤣🤣🤣Brain Freeze with the 1/8" What I've done with the F Clamps is take a cut off wheel to the top of the bolt and cut a good size groove in the head and then place the clamp into the groove. Makes it so much stronger. Broke the first couple when I didn't do that.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I am super happy how this came out. Now I just need to keep making a few different assessories to make fit up even faster. Those annular cutters last and last. Not many people know this but you can send them out and get them sharpened :)

My weld table is 3/8×24×36. Its not flat! Up to 0.040 low in middle and a bit more on one long edge. I had forgotten about that until today when i started laying out scribe lines to do what this video depicts. The plate was pre cut when I got it and i never checked it for flatness, just assumed it would be. Brought it home (several years ago), added legs, etc. If im going to make a fixture table I want to start with a flat sheet. So, I'll likely get a piece cut. 1/2" is $40 bucks more than 3/8" for the 2x4 ft size so might bump up to 1/2 and this time check it for flatness!
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 7 ай бұрын
You could even put it on top of the plate you gave and it would be real heavy duty!

Awesome video Brandon! One gripe. It is hard to describe the build as "budget" when you are using over $3K in tools to make it. I get that you may save money over buying a pre-fab table, and the materials don't cost that much. I realize a mag drill is really nice and could potentially be used for more than just this project, it would have been more helpful to see the build using more common tools. I realize that might present a problem with cutting 5/8 holes in the center of the table with a bit requires a 3/4 chuck... which is exactly my point. Maybe smaller holes made with a drill using a 1/2 chuck... or the use of magnetic hold down clamps would be a good alternative for the beginner? I'm a beginner, looking to do the same project, but don't have the money to invest. I bought a used stick welder for $200 and the essentials to get started.

You must have missed the conversation where I talked about renting these tools versus buying them to do this project, which in this case is about 75 to rent as I mentioned in the video.

Brandon, just wanted to let you know because of you I just pulled the trigger on a Mag Drill so I could use your method of building the fabrication table. I don't know yet whether I am going to use the 3/4 aluminum sheet I have or just bite the bullet and go get a piece of surplus steel 3/8 from a local steel shop here. I would have to cut the aluminum sheet down to 30" x 30" and don't know if that would be too much hassle to do.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 3 жыл бұрын
@salceti that's awesome man! Once you are done building your fab table then your going to have to build yourself a drill press stand for your mag drill! I would try to cut it myself if your fairly handy and have a nice Circular Saw. You can cut aluminum with a Circular Saw and a regular wood cutting carbide blade. You can use a bar of soap to keep the cut cool and the blade sharp. Although I've never tried cutting 3/4 it's worth a try and if you take your time likely doable. If you find it works, clamp a straightedge to the plate and run the saw plate along the edge for a nice precise cut.
@salceti
@salceti 3 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonLund Thanks for the tip man, I will definitely try the circular saw trick, it would be nice to be able to use the aluminum as I have had it for a couple of years just standing in my garage and not really having a use for it. I will let you know how it goes as it goes.

Love this idea! I was going to get a drill press but that mag drill convinced me otherwise. Cost more but is far more practical! Please show us that Transteel welding aluminum, thew say with that machine there is no need for spool gun.
@BrandonLund

Thanks Jose! In my opinion the mag drill / drill press mod that we did in that episode is far more useful for what I do than just having a drill press. It's a huge timesaver! P.S. if you decide to purchase a mag drill, you will save yourself some cash using the exclusive links in the video description. Evolution Tools has been kind to give my channel viewers a nice discount! 👌 I actually can't wait to run some aluminum in that machine. I've seen the whip tied into a knot and it still feeds aluminum flawlessly! We will be doing some experiments too! 😉👍

Thanks for the video. You are always an inspiration. I am about to build a table and wanted to pass on some info I learned today. I was wondering about the hole sizes. I got on some websites and looked at clamps, stops, and other things. Found out that the standard hole size is 16mm rather than 5/8. Reason is because the clamps and stops are 5/8, which is 15.9mm, so if your hole is 16mm it gives you just a hair gap to drop the tool in easily. I like your jig idea. I will do that too. Do you wish you had built it bigger? I want at least 3ftx4ft. I build alot of table legs and would like to have a bigger table in the center of my shop.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 3 жыл бұрын
Great information! I'm actually really happy with the size for the stuff I build. I can barely lift the plate so any bigger and I wouldn't be able to remove it for the few odd times I want my lift table empty.

Thanks Julio I appreciate it and congratulations nearing retirement! I try to be very safety conscious. I usually end up taking off my ppe because the welding and fabrication is about 1/10 of the time that im actually spent setting up the shot and then I forget I've taken my gear off and am less protected. I'm going to have to do a reel of just me doing a head nod to get my hood down and im not actually wearing one because I do it all the time because I forgot I had taken it off lol

Great project and great point about the satisfaction derived from making your workshop easier, better and safer to use. BTW, what are you using on the surface of that table to keep it from rusting? Are you just using oil or something else?

Thanks man! I'm cheap so instead of anti spatter spray I've always used cooking spray to keep things from sticking so that works pretty decent to repel moisture from the top, then about once a week i wipe everything down with a light coat of wd-40.
