Serious Adventure to a Fire Tower Extreme on the Edge

This little jaunt to a Fire Tower that we failed to reach last year turned into more than we bargained for and pushed us to the limits!

I really thought it was still up there from looking at the drone shot from last year. It was 10 miles away and a dime shot but it really looked like the cabin was still up there or I wouldn't have made that hike! I think that big birds nest on top made it look like a cabin.

Bummer the cupola was gone - I don't imagine there are very many left with them... Fire towers often had a towerman's cabin. Do you find that they've all been torn down?

A couple of years ago I checked out a tower and it had two Towerman's cabins. An old original log cabin that was falling down and the newer cabin. It was an old tower probably from the 1920's...two months later they tore down all of it! That was the only tower that I found with the cabin, mostly they were all burned down long time ago. There's still quite a few towers with the Cupola out there but getting fewer all the time. Thanks Alain!

Ahh bummer, shame the MNR took it down already. I don't think we lose brain cells Rob, I think us men are just stubborn sometimes, our brains say yes and the body says no. It just takes more time for the brain to catch up. 😂 Your brain just caught up after that hike!! LOL..

Actually your body is getting SMARTER and is not believing your what brain is trying to tell it that it can do the hard stuff like it use to. I am 72 and my brain hasn't won one of those arguments in years !! If you keep breaking your toys you will have to walk everywhere!!😲😭🇨🇦

What part of northwest Ontario is this in? I know of a very remote one near Fort Frances that I had a failed attempt at reaching this past winter by snowmobile. Going to reattempt sometime in summer!

Ya, it was just a little project that I thought I'd do but the timing was wrong with Covid BS and I only got 100 copies made of it but actually sold them all. It was called "What's the Attraction" (Exploring Abandoned Places). Just about the reason I do this and the thrill of finding stuff, lots of colour photos of some of the places.
