You want to match your casting volume to your shooting volume. Your set up is fine for an airgun. Having said that, a Lee production pot is not that expensive and makes things real fast and easy..

That lead is waaaay to hot bud... Reason its turning purple and oxidizing on you so fast... Its not slag or impurities... Its basically lead "rust" if you will..... Lower ur heat and flux with wax... Will help dissolve lead oxide back into molten lead....

I hope to do that one day. I want to get a PCP and make my own slugs to avoid ordering them via mail. How do you feel about using lead tire weights you find laying on the sides of the road ? It's free lead.

Tire weights work just fine. Thanks for watching

@@OutdoorsWithJoe : 100% agreed!; I've been casting bullets from molten wheelweights for decades now. Just a couple observations: *Nowadays, additional to lead alloy wheelweights, there also all.steel & Zinc ones. The iron/ steel ones 'float' on molten lead, BUT Zinc ones will contaminate your alloy and this is NO good at all. You'll notice it in the surface of the molten alloy when its above ~670° Fahrenheit, 'cuz it will turn purplish. Best regards & stay safe.🙏

I cast 10,000 bullets on my kitchen stove before I ever heard about lead poisoning. That was over 40 years ago. I still cast. Right now I am trying to come up with a reasonably priced .218 ball mold for my 22 cal air-guns.

You safety Sallies get ridiculous sometimes. I suggest closed toed shoes, eye protection and maybe one glove. Good ventilation is a good idea. I do as much of my lead casting outdoors as I can.
