I'm just glad other people are willing to get out there while it sucks. When I talk to people about winter camping they act like I'm crazy.

I took my 60L ShadowLight on an over night snow bound trip here in the Mountains of PA where it got down to -8°F. The ShadowLight 60 liter is my go to pack for winter hikes due to larger storing capacity and heavier gear in the winter. I invite you guys out to try a few of the RocksSylvania trails here in Pennsylvania on the East Coast. The loft tech adventure jacket made a good mid-layer. This Monday will be my first over night trip in the Nova-UL, if the weather forecast holds up it will be my main layer.

Very cool brother. Loved the video. I'm about to do a hiking trip on the A.T. this coming weekend. My birthday is this Thursday so took the weekend off to go hiking. Be safe out there and hike on! 👍👍

Awesome 👍 video. You guys really hiked hard on that hike I was sweating just watching the video beautiful views though. The burn mark on the sleeping bag sucked I would've been pissed too. Be safe out there

Did a winter backpacking trip int the PNW near Mount Baker but nowhere near those temps. Got below freezing but barely. I did get a chance to try out my new 15 degree top quilt, down booties, Ventus Hoodie, and my dragon wool zip offs. Stayed warm all night and during the whole trip. I love the hoodie. It's my favorite piece of gear to wear. Can't wait to lose some winter weight so it fits a little looser. Love all my gear and the puffy coat will be my next purchase

I would love to be able to see those views rather than the heat and humidity in Florida. It’s been in the high 80’s and supposedly we are still in winter, it’s already too hot. Take me with you on your next winter backpacking trip!

Man, another nutzo freezing adventure. Thank you for enduring such - that we can either be (1) better informed for similar, or (2) at least live vicariously through real tough guys.

If you unpack those freeze dried meals and put them in a freezer bag they take up a lot less room in your bag. The freezer bag handles the heat and I put it in a cozy which keeps it warm.

I think Shug has a video of minus 40 in Minnesota. I’ve done zero. I’d like to do a sub zero at some point. Once you get below 10 or so you have to stay covered (hands face etc anyway to prevent frost bite)

Great trip even though you guys didn't summit. Lots of data points for future trips. Looking forward to the gear breakdown and finding out more about that tent. It looks like the silex from SeekOutside but I could be wrong. Just to add my coldest night out into the mix -30'C (-22'F) That was not awesome :) Nate

Ultralight is cool, but to me (not an UL person) it looks very uncomfortable. You would have a hard time talking me out of my thick wool layers, insulated pants and parka. I know that while hiking you stay much warmer but when its cold its cold and it can get dangerous very fast when you come to a rest. Growing up in MI the cold is vicious here and will put you in check very fast and has taught me the hard way more than once that a lot of UL type gear fails fast in the bitter cold. Good video though, gives us all lessons.
@jumpship53782 жыл бұрын
I'm not a UL person either give me good wool and other layers,and my raincoat that I'm using that season.and that's what I've always done ..light gear is not good when you get a big rip or process alot of wood.if I'm in that weather, Im Snapping wood and scraping against my clothes .to me I always go with durability.i even still like a wool blanket inside my mummybag to Camp in extreme colds,as opposed to a single bag of greater warmth rating.
@stoicodysseys63522 жыл бұрын
That's why you pack a warm puffy for when you're at camp. I get way too hot when hiking even in the single digits.

@MrEdgy812 жыл бұрын
@@stoicodysseys6352 maybe a heavy and thick down jacket but you would be on the edge of surviving around here in just a packable puffy. Again, the UL stuff just doesn't cut it in these conditions.

Had a very uncomfortable vision of tenacious tape getting stuck to the beard…..ouch. What was a realistic back up plan if your gear wasn’t sufficient? Hike back out even in the deep snow or? Love these types of camp. Thanks for sharing!

You're not having much luck with winter camping eh? That looks like a nice stove and shelter set up tho.

Did this tarp work out better than the last and what is this one? I missed the name if you said it in the video. I remember you having issues on your last cold trip and you said you were getting a new shelter.
