I'm surprised the guide disclaimed all knowledge of ghosts, because there is a famous one, the ghost of Elizabeth Barnard, wife of the first Baron Barnard, who was "affectionately" known as the Old Hell Cat. Her story and habits are described on the Raby Website. My grandmother was a servant at the house just after WW1, and told me the story when I was a child. She didn't believe in ghosts so never saw the old lady with the red hot knitting needles.
