A Greek Tragedy of high moralistic fiber. Poetic dialog, excellent, empathetic character portrayal, music score that paints a multilayered story and the most bittersweet ending ever. TOL was high art done in a small, square box .Never to be duplicated, only imitated. Black and white to enhance the Chiaroscuro effect. A complete 1 hour masterpiece.

Bernard Herrmann once say that music was the emotional underpinnings of our visual media like television and motion picures. Dominic Frontire proved his point resoundingly. The Outer Limits was and extraordinary television series not just for it's time but always. Without Frontiere's music it wouldn't be the same entity. Imagine Jaws without John Wiliams score or Psycho without Bernard Herrmann's music. Frontiere's musical creations made a profound difference in the viability of Outer Limits as a series, contributing to its longevity and its creative endeavors.

I'm glad you enjoyed the DF soundtrack. Sometime in 2024, I will be releasing my first Harry Lubin re-creation soundtrack. The music is strangely electronic as compared to Domenic Frontiere's orchestra sound. It will be interesting to see the comparisons beteen the 2 composers.

You are absolutely correct sir in your opinion of the Outer Limits! I too was 9 also when it premiered on Sept.16th, 1963. My favorite all time science fiction series. Everything about this show screamed perfection from the acting, special effects (for the time), and music were top notch. The updated version from the mid '90's was okay but definitely not in the same league as the original. A shame really that this series ended up getting cancelled after only 49 episodes because the ABC television network executives made the so called "bright" decision to move it from it's Monday night time slot to Saturday where it was in competition up against the Jackie Gleason show which pretty much buried it in the ratings.....If possible, try to get a copy of the books "The Outer Limits Companion" or "The Outer Limits At 50" both of which are authored by Mr. David J. Schow . Both books are literal treasure troves of information and behind the scenes photos of this classic series
@comicbookal6 жыл бұрын
Agree with you 100% on Season 1 which for me was more so science fiction/horror than Season 2 . Many of the episodes for Season 2 leaned more so towards what I like to call "hard science fiction" stories with my favorites being "Demon With A Glass Hand" and "Chameleon" both which were written by acclaimed sci-fi author Harlen Ellison who won an award from the Writers Guild for the former. Twilight Zone was an excellent series too with a number of science fiction oriented stories although I would tend to classify it overall as fantasy/horror and definitely not on the same level as Outer Limits. Everything that you mentioned about the acting, story lines, and that fantastic, wonderful, and exhilarating music has not been equaled in any other science fiction series since it's untimely cancellation in Jan. of '65. Writer/Associate Producer Mr.Joseph Stefano pretty much saw the "writing on the wall" and left the show after the 1st Season when the decision was made (by ABC) to move the series from Monday to Saturday nights. As far as the theme music is concerned, I prefer Mr. Dominic Frontiere's orchestrations from season 1 over Mr.Harry Lubin's which was nothing more than a variation of his "Fear" theme from the series "One Step Beyond" (1959-1961). Outer Limits is on Blu-Ray now? It's about time......

We lived west of Youngstown, with a strict v hard-working Dad who would say 'lights out.' Then we would sneak back at 11 pm and twist the rabbit ears to get the show out of the snow from Cleveland. My brothers and sisters would joke about how I'd watch the show peeking out from behind a chair or a door.

All class, like most of the episodes in this 60's series .Imaginatively conceived and mediating humanitarian values through often chillingly grotesque entities . There's a moral earnestness that characterizes these episodes which doesn't lapse into sanctimony . Infinitely better than the amoral themes and the bedazzling yet meaningless visual effects which effectively overshadow any edifying narrative that all too infrequently might just be a constituent of today's movies and TV programs .

Danny Elfman's Salvation (for 'Terminator Salvation') is clearly inspired by the sound in 'Andro And Noelle Theme', 'Time-Crossed Lovers', and 'Could We Make A Better Future'. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2m7i5huZb-sprs Also interesting that Terminator Salvation is about (SPOILER ALERT) a defeated man from the past going into the future to manipulate the existence of the man destined to save humanity while wearing a facade hiding a monster underneath but ends up falling in love with the people he's programmed to manipulate and kill, ultimately sacrificing himself for humanity. Whereas The Man Who Was Never Born is about (SPOILER ALERT) a defeated man from the future going into the past to manipulate the existence of the man destined to destroy humanity while wearing a facade hiding a monster underneath but ends up falling in love with the person he's determined to stop, ultimately sacrificing himself for humanity. In addition to the obvious parallel of a man going back in time to save/kill the mother of the man destined to save/kill humanity (the foundation of the Terminator story).

Why can't you show what is happening in the show I love the music but I can't understand why the 60s Outer Limits episodes are off limits for you tube
@mawel19554 жыл бұрын
Legal reasons. Some production and distribution outfits prohibit any unauthorized re-broadcasting. You can put up Outer Limits episodes if you want but you'll soon get a 'cease and desist' order from You Tube who, in turn, would have got a 'cease and desist' from the production company that owns the rights to that particular program. If you don't take the programs down voluntarily, You Tube will take them down and maybe even delete your account. Keep putting unauthorized episodes up and you could get heavily fined.

What prompted production to film the ep was the budget was miniscule. In order to produce a new ep in 6 days, liberties had to be taken.
