The Rocky Mountain Altitude is SOLD!....
time to shop for a new bike... and the best way is to just ride a SCHLOAD of bikes!
Outerbike is perfect for that, but ESPECIALLY Outerbike in Crested Butte, CO where the event is hosted at Evolution Bike Park with LIFT SERVICE!
Yes, we DID do climbing trails to get a feel for the bikes' climbing abilities..but that's no fun to watch ;)

I'll be the dissenter. I attended Outerbike in Crested Butte 2018. The event was awful and Western Spirit's response was total apathy. If you rode anything but a size large frame, you got to ride any bike you wanted. I sat in the food tent for hours on Friday and Saturday hoping to catch someone on the way in to turn in a size large. In 3 days, I rode 3 bikes, two of which I had no desire to ride (there was nothing else) and a Transition Scout with totally shot brakes. I went off the trail twice because it couldn't stop before the turn. Guys refused to turn in the bikes because they knew they'd be walking tents for hours hoping to find anything to ride. For the fees, travel costs, Airbnb, etc., I could have rented 6 bikes for full days of riding. Instead, I rode for 1 hour total over 3 days.
@TheCrashingDad
@TheCrashingDad 4 жыл бұрын
shit... dude that sucks!... I'm sorry! I had a pretty hard time with mediums.... i basically just took any medium i could get regardless of brand, wheels size, and travel.... Seems like everyone only had smalls, larges, and XLs left over all day... which i would've picked up larges, but larges are way too big for me... I DID bring my own bike fully expecting to not have any bikes available.... which i was able to ride when the demo event closed for the first day, and the lifts stayed open until 7. and it seemed like most everyone was only taking demo bikes out for 2 or 3 laps at a time...rotating the bikes through (which is what they were encouraging....possibly from lessons learned in '18) cheers...
@TheCrashingDad
@TheCrashingDad 4 жыл бұрын
I also guess that it doesn't have to be "OuterBike" as the "best" way to shop for a new bike.... Any demo event where you can get on a schload of bikes is ideal 🤷‍♂️

I'm going to the one in Moab next month. In the market for a new bike. Hoping I can get plenty of demos in. I'm wanting to try both the budget and pricier bikes. Have never even been on both ends of the spectrum like Specialized or Yeti, so most bikes will be new. I've only been on Scott, Santa Cruz and Ibis.
@TheCrashingDad
@TheCrashingDad 4 жыл бұрын
My top tips... Bring your own bike just in case you can't get a bike (especially since Moab doesn't have a lift service park, and the bikes might stay out all day) Definitely show up early to get the bike you want. Bring a pump/shock pump.... Sometimes the demo people don't set you up very well 🤷‍♂️🤘🏼 I might see you there! 🤘🏼

About the smelly pads I think I might have a solution. Because the stink is bacteria you have to kill it by freezing it. So I would first wash the pads and dry them out and then throw them in a freezer for like three days then take them out and throw them back in the wash and dry. I think that should work.

SOLUTION FOR HORRIBLE GROSS PADS: Get some water purification tablets for getting river water into drinking water. They have to have silver particles and chloride won't hurt either. You get enough water to dunk the pads whole, but meassure the ammount cause you need the correct number of tablets per litre or gallon. Dunk them in there for at least 2h and wiggle them around like every half hour, turn them around etc. Then when the time runs out DO NOT flush them in clean water, leave them to drip dry, so that as many particles will stay in the fabric. Left over water you can then use for shoes or whatever else stinks, or the other way round if other clothing stinks less. Off course you can wash the bits of clothing prior in a washing machine and then dunk them in silver. This will stop the growth and smell producing fungi for couple of weeks. So it's not for ever. Also as a quick solution a spray for smelly shoes that has silver in it will also help somewhat for quick treatment.

lol... i really don't get to test that many bikes... i go to the fruita fat tire fest and maybe an outerbike a year.... When i was shopping for my first bike, that's when i did a lot of bike "reviews/first-impressions"... even then, i was paying to demo bikes from shops. my "schedule" is a more than full time job where i travel, each kid has a sport.... and i try to make youtube videos in the middle of the night when the fam is sleeping.... I might make $3 on ad revenue from each video.... so I'd rather do it for fun, than stress about a review video.... I COULD make a "review" vid for every bike i tested, but honestly it would just be more of the same...regurgitating what bible of bike, or online bike magazines say about them. Sorry if this channel doesn't live up to your expectations...
