Good stuff! Before dismantling need to record the connection position not to lose the shaft balance.
@OutJeeping4 жыл бұрын
That would be if you are disassembling the shaft from where the slip joint would be. The shaft is balanced as it's own unit and not with the rest of the drivetrain so it can be installed in any position on the vehicle side yokes.

Would a bad u joint on the rear shaft cause a clunk when shifting from reverse to drive and also when park is engaged?

It certainly can otherwise severe backlash in the rear axle can cause that as well.

There may be a little slop in it when the transmission is in park, that's normal.

@13:10 NEVER use a ball peen hammer to hammer on the caps. You can warp the caps & even possibly break them. The "ball" puts excessive force in a very small spot. It's always best to use a flat-faced hammer.
@OutJeeping2 жыл бұрын
I am aware of the possible damage that can be done. Usually pounding in new U-joints doesn't take a whole lot of force. Using an old socket would have been a better choice.

The reason the strap bolts strip easy is because you are using the wrong size. It's a 5/16″ SAE bolt, and not 8mm.
@OutJeeping4 жыл бұрын
They are very close in size but to be accurate 5/16 would be 2 thousands of in inch smaller thean a 8mm. Who knows that may help with stripping issues.
@Reekor4 жыл бұрын
@@OutJeeping True, but depending on the bolt there might be more forces at play. The bolt can lose material due to rust and make the 2 thousands of in inch smaller size matter that much more. Give the 5/16 a try next time you'll feel the difference.

nice, i have been dreading this as my 8MM bolts are slightly rounded. any tips if they do round over for me?
@OutJeeping4 жыл бұрын
I would heat up the yoke where its threaded in then use a 6 point 8mm socket. If it still strips hammer on a slightly smaller socket either standard or metric sizes.

It's honestly not that big of a deal on brand new joints since the bearings aren't wearing into anything yet. It can be more of an issue with a used but still good joint, that has been disassembled.
