She plays Brianna EXACTLY as she’s written in the books. It’s not an easy character because she keeps so much inside and you don’t get in her head like Claire or see her emotions storm her words like Jamie. Bree is stoic and complicated with some fiery Fraser. On top of that, Sophie has the combined facial features of Caitriona and Sam. Sam’s small eyes, Cait’s wide nose but short like Sam’s. Her mouth also has some Cait in it. I can’t fathom how so many people think she was miscast. Just because of her eyecolor or height.

I think part of it is the accent. It's so lovely here! And in Outlander it's... sort of a bizarre over-enunciation of Rs and yet under-enunciation of other vowels. I don't know. But her natural accent is beautiful!

Agree. She’s a beautiful person but for some reason her scenes just aren’t as believable & I’m reminded I’m watching an actor vs getting caught up in story. Season 5 ep. 511 Journeycake, her scene with Lord Grey (David Berry) for example. But of course I still love the show & can’t wait for the Finale!

Amber it’s the whole first season she was on outlander. She was so awkward and unbelievable as a character for me. All the lines she delivered seemed so disconnected emotionally especially small conversational lines that needed to have some sort of emotion to look natural. And for the scenes that were dramatic she would overact. Her accent needed work as well. In all, it just seemed as if she was in over her head and was probably not prepared to have a big role much less be next to great actors/actresses like Catriona and Sam. But I will say she has improved a lot as an actress in the recent season and has become believable for me as the character.

I think that what you see is Skelton playing a difficult multy layered person like Brianna. Skelton's role possibly is one of the most difficult ones in the series. So, I think you rather criticize Brianna's character than the skills of actor who plays her.

@@frankrault3190 I’ve seen plenty of multi dimensional characters. Like Nina dobrev who acted as two entirely different characters and did a phenomenal job. I was so captivated by her performance that I didn’t even pay attention to the fact that the same actress is playing two different people because it was believable. Where the Brianna actress speaks it pulls me out of the spell and I can easily tell she’s acting. It sounds like she’s reading off a script. I’m no actress but if someone like me can easily see the poor quality of her acting then that’s when you know they cannot act.

As someone who didn't read the books, her eyes were the most mesmerizing thing I'd seen in television in a long while. They almost look fake. They also greatly added to the character imo. Maybe the character in the books should have had her eyes, instead of vice versa.
