The snes version animated the car sprite well, and the ground looks a little bit more detailed; but that's only because the genesis had superior line scaling technology. The look of the desert floor was a little bit duller on the genesis, but that allowed the road to scroll and wind so much more smoothly. There are trade offs, but the Genesis' technology was better used here. I also like the brighter color palette and choice to go first person.

Playing this for the first time as a kid in the 90s on my Genesis, I have to say the music was badass. I used to just listen to the intro and not even play because my 10 year old self thought it was so awesome.

I can call this in less than 45 seconds. The Sega Genesis wins by a freaking landslide. This game should have never been released on the Snes. The reason for this and why I suspect that they look like two different games is Nintendo's old stance on violence and videogames. Especially the double barrel shotgun to the face a'la Mad Max style.

noone is mentioning how sluggish the SNES version is, it takes alot of getting used to like Top Gear 1 to Top Gear 2, your car feels like it has flat tires and is very heavy feeling and fustrating where the sega has this very nice first person feel even with swaying

Actually, neither version is better because the Genesis had super slow frame rates with being put into the inside the car view, plus the pop up window with bikers coming on the left side was so fucking annoying and unnecessary, and both games also felt like an uninspired side-scrolling shooter mixed in with a piss poor beat-em-up/side-scrolling brawler and a Road Rash clone and it did not succeed on any front, so get your fucking shit straight, +Shadowlord 1980!

Mega Drive: more immersive POV during the car sections + with better frame rate (SNES is almost a slide show xD), superior resolution during the walking sections... and IMO much better music. SNES: has the advantage of the shoulder buttons used for shooting left/right through the window when in the car and also better sound effects. Mmh, I'd say Mega Drive wins even with the less handy shooting during the car sections. btw can we consider SNES game to be censored with its half-skulls? ^^

When I played the snes version back in the day, I swear there was a cockpit view with a little round orange bird hanging from the mirror. I always thought it was cool because it would swing back and forth and it looked 3D.

the swinging bird is an optional upgrade in the mega drive / genesis version, and there is really no cockpit view in the SNES version, so you must remember it wrong.

Not *always* to be fair. Just usually. The SNES is always fighting an uphill battle due to its lower resolution showing less on screen, and it's slower processor struggling with fast action. The SNES is truly awesome for RPG"s though, where these issues aren't exposed.

9 fois sur 10, peut être même plus, la version Megadrive est meilleure, pour une raison ou pour une autre. Et encore une fois, c'est le cas. C'est dingue comme à l'époque on nous a fait croire que les versions Snes étaient supérieures aux versions MD, tout ça parce qu'il y avait plus de couleurs ou un son plus "pur". Ils ne disaient jamais que la résolution sur MD était toujours plus élevée et que c'était donc bien plus agréable à jouer (au contraire, on nous sortait que les sprites étaient plus gros donc que c'était mieux !!!), que les versions MD étaient plus fluides, plus rapides... J'ai eu les deux et je me suis laissé berné. Aujourd'hui, je choisis quasi systématiquement les versions MD aux versions Snes tant je les trouve plus agréables à jouer à jeu identique.

It's interesting how the driver is visible in the mirror in the SNES while the car is shown from the outside. Whereas this mirror WOULD naturally belong into the Genesis cockpit, but there it is missing. They could blend both into an ultimate port for the Neo Geo HAHA

They both seem to be pushing the systems' CPUs hard. In fact, Outlander (along with Road Riot and Super Mad Champ) gives an idea of what Road Rash might have been like on the Super NES, especially since it seems to be using the same engine on both systems.

Nesse jogo é que se vê o abismo que há entre o Mega e Super Nes, o videogame da Sega está escalando todos os sprites em tempo real, de forma parecida como os arcades poderosos faziam, tudo isso com o poder bruto da CPU. No Snes, o jogo é essa completa merda, não dá pra usar o mode 7, percebam como Mario Kart que é um game mais complexo tem o chip DSP, imagina suportar a ação de um jogo como Outlander? The Genesis version seems to use the same engine as games like Road Rash. The game would be much better without the on foot parts. It would be like an Interstate 76 game for the 16 bit console.

The SNES version pretty much sucks balls, but I do find it impressive; you didn't see that Road Rash style scaling engine on SNES very often, and with it having up to three windows showing different parts of the action on screen kind of suprises me. They were probably better off just using flat terrain with Mode 7, but I admire the ambition on such a slow CPU.

Ouf, hard to say: PRO SEGA: Uncensored intro: bullet-holes in the windows, eyes full of fear. ... More fluent gameplay, nice inside-car-animations with steering-wheel and stuff, funny double-barreled shotgun to shoot left and right out of the window. Bright sky. Reminds me a lot on "Road Rash 1-3", which gives me positive feelings. PRO SNES: Nice back-mirror with the face of the driver. I wonder, if there is an inside-car-animation like SEGA has. Overall: Not the best game. Some nice animations, maybe a nice game-cover. Not really worth to play.
