So for the baby I think there's no baby. If you remember Outlast 1, part of the Murkoff mind experiments lead women to have psychosomatic pregnancies i.e. they think they're pregnant but they're not, ending in death. So I think ‘There’s nothing there’, there’s no baby. And that completely explains Lynn's sudden 0-to-100 pregnancy period, Like… Suddenly her stomach is big and ready to give birth. I don't see the baby's 'SHADOW' in 1:45:09 , I just saw blake's hands holding nothing. And Lynn didn’t die because she gave birth, well kind of. Psychosomatic pregnancy induced by murkoff corp. Its could have been a very painful and shocking experience even if it was fake. You can die from a heart attack and so on. There is actually a note in the 1st game about it, If I’m not wrong. And for the ending... Is it a nuclear? Because I replay the ending.. It isn't coming from the sun, but from behind the mountain.

Ayu Nuraini Yup. In the end, they made the flash of the hallucination tower bigger for dramatic effect. They dramatized it because it is the last of the real world Blake will ever see. Since he hallucinates after the flash of light, it gives off the message that he's forever trapped in his own head.

I liked this game far more than the first. Perhaps not a fun game to play (I wouldn't know, but some comments have called it repetitive), but a fantastic one to watch. I'm a sucker for good scenery and atmosphere and this game had a lot of memorable locales--the village, the camp of the sick, the 'wrong' lake and the completely convincing school setting (right down to the bulletin boards with their cheesy balloon letters and the ugly library carpeting)--plus excellent character design. I wish there was more of Father Knoth, Marta, and their respective histories, and I wish their deaths didn't boil down to *ahem* acts of God. As for the story, I prefer Outlast 2 because it exhibited what I thought was much more sophisticated symbolic language. In the first Outlast, you get what it says on the tin: investigative reporter goes to an insane asylum, finds Nazi experiment gone wrong, solves puzzles to right the big wrong (oh scientists and their hubris!!!). That's not to say that it wasn't an incredible story in its own right; the way the story unfolds as Miles realizes he's stumbled on something much bigger than he could have ever expected is a treat, and finding new, more horrible inmates along with the conditions that led to their particular psychoses is a descent into a dreadful, hellish rabbithole. But while the experiments concerned mind control, there was no reason ever to doubt Miles' reality; he was not subjected to any experiments, and he more or less empirically confirms the existence and origins of the Walrider, as well as the timeline for everything going to shit. Outlast 2 carries the torch from the first game by making a game about mind control where not only do you discover a scheme to brainwash a whole town, but you become a victim of it yourself. At the first blare of the horn and flash of light in Outlast 2, the villagers appear blinded and entranced by something Blake cannot see; as he comments, they appear "hypnotized." Whether the hypnosis needs time to take effect (or Blake was shielded from the initial light blast by the surrounding rocks) is unclear, but at the second blast, the effect is immediate and he finds himself in his memories of the fourth grade at his old Catholic elementary school. The game interweaves two narratives as it unfolds: in the present, Blake searches for Lynn, whose life and (alleged) pregnancy are at the center of a battle between zealots and heretics; in the past, Blake relives the events leading up to the death of his childhood friend, Jessica. The denouement of each of these stories is where things get complicated. As we discover through found notes and drawings in the past, a childhood game of hangman (and a puppy-crush love triangle) between Blake, Lynn, and Jessica ultimately translates gruesomely into Jessica's suicide. But why does Blake feel so guilty? Why does he keep uncovering messages like "unforgiveable," "help me," and "don't let me go"? As the flashbacks progress, in the limbic state between memory and reality, Blake appears to argue with himself: "she hung herself... no, he... he did it;" "I felt her neck snap in my hands... no I got there too late to help her;" "I didn't step into the blood because I didn't want to leave tracks" (why was their blood when Jessica died by hanging?). Memory begins to degrade and distort at the presence of a multi-limbed monster, whose arrival coincides more and more with a soft, male voice telling Blake he's "confused." Finally, Blake's mind forces the truth upon him: on the night of Jessica's death, he was pressured to leave his friend in the hands of a priest, Father Loutermilch, with Blake backtracking just in time to see Jessica's neck break after she was pushed down the stairs. Whether the hanging was represented solely in the accounts of Blake and Father Loutermilch, or whether the priest really did hang Jessica (implied to be in the courtyard of the school) is unclear, but the juxtaposition of fabricated and repressed memories hints that the crime was covered up, with the priest possibly molesting and forcing Blake's cooperation. The blank static sections of the camcorder confirm these segments happen solely in Blake's mind, as well as representing a refusal (or inability) to bear witness to reality. The clean white halls of St. Sybil and the squalor of the village strike strong visual contrasts, but the two stories are linked thematically. At one point, Blake finds a woman chained to a bed. Scratches on the wall mark days of captivity, or something much worse--looking at the chairs arranged for viewing, Blake comments "this is where the magic happens." He's being sarcastic but this really is the site of Temple Gate's original sin: as hinted in letters, dialogue, and the discovery of a pit of victims, Father Knoth rapes the women of the village and then kills them and their children in the name of preventing the Antichrist's birth. His settlement of fanatics, of cowed worshippers and eager bloodletters, is in reality an elaborate structure to commit sexual violence and then dispose of its victims, all while accruing power and piety for doing so. Recall the multi-limbed monster that haunts the school, and the tongues that repeatedly pull Blake into the past without his consent--a frightening, grasping, clawing abomination is exactly how a child's subconscious would probably represent a sexual molester, one that seems all-powerful within the school. The blood weeping from the walls, drains, and toilets, staining the white walls and floors... this is guilt and corruption of innocence, and Outlast 2 draws a direct line between an insane, child-killing religious cult and a religious institution that empowers and erases the abuse of children. The central tragedy of Outlast 2, and why it'll stick with me for a long time, is that Blake loses his grip on reality just as he recovers the truth about his friend. Because while the voice of Father Loutermilch and the sight of Jessica's body and its telltale bruises become clearer and clearer, the mental infection of Temple Gate is sinking deeper and deeper: Lynn is suddenly, obviously pregnant, despite not showing at their arrival; the baby she births has no umbilical cord nor a shadow (spotted by @Ayu Nuraini at 1:45:00). Most damningly, while Lynn looks at the child and dies with the last words, "there's nothing there," Father Knoth commits suicide at the sight of it. Blake's reality has been replaced by that of the cult. Walking outside, hesitantly, into the light of a new day, he carries a baby girl--a new life, hope, a chance at atonement, salvation for his part in concealing Jessica's murder--that simply does not exist. The ending could have many meanings. Like a lot of other commenters, I also wonder if the world really did end and if Blake survived. But I also wonder: did he finally tell anyone about the truth of what happened to Jessica? And if he did, would anyone believe him? Long comment, tl;dr the cult and the Catholic school are thematically linked as institutions that enable sexual violence and Blake is brainwashed. It was either write a comment or write a journal entry and I thought somebody might enjoy my interpretation of the story. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There's a lot of stuff left to talk about like what the tongues mean and the sadness of the heretics and the camp of sick people so that's why I like Outlast 2: plenty of food for thought.

@@Neopolitan_Illusion He isn't. This game takes place after Outlast 1, for one. And also, in the Asylum, you can find documents about Billy Hope, which states that he became a patient when the Asylum opened back up in 2009, when he was 19 years old. If you subtract that, he would have been born in 1990. Blake, Lynn and Jessica all attended fourth grade together in 1995, so that wouldn't line up at all.

the first i played and finished outlast 2, i said ‘wtf is wrong with that ending? bullshit’ but when you re-watch the whole game, and make a little search about it, all the weird things makes sense! first of all, y’all remember the tower right? it’s Murkoff’s, and sending radioactive waves to the village. the helicopter they came with fell of because of that tower! we saw Blake started to see hallucinations after started trying to find Lynn. at first, it was’nt a big deal cause hallucinations were not that long and often but, after 1 or 2 hours of playing you can see the hallucinations are becoming oftenly and Blake stays in longer, because of the Murkoff’s tower, and Blake slowly becoming one of them. as you can see the end of the game, like Lynn said, there was no baby. Blake was holding a baby but you can’t see a shadow of it. cause he saw hallucinations again, like the whole village individuals. Then he gone crazy with the last thing, you see, the lightning right? and started to live in his dreams with Jess.

But he forced Blake to cover it up as a suicide and make him keep quiet which is even worse and in the end he still ended up losing Lynn too now that's 2 most important women he lost. make a search about outlast 2, the first or whistleblower -couldn’t remember exactly- game includes some hints about outlast 2 like pregnancy, some women thought that they were pregnant but they weren’t, and died. also the tower we see on outlast 2 was Murkoff’s, sending radioactive waves on that village and make everyone crazy, sick so they can make experiments -you see some of the people are very sick, even they r vomiting- So that’s why Blake and Lynn’s helicopter fell of with no reason, because of the tower, there were no one who knows they fall and tries to find them... Blake’s hallucinations was not a big deal at first but after one or two hours of playing, you can see his hallucinations became longer and he stays in much more longer, because of the waves, he was slowly becoming one of them even he saw Lynn gave birth to a baby, but as Lynn said, there was nothing there.. Blake was holding his baby but there was no shadow or sth... and at the end of the game, Blake became one of them and when every single person died, the waves gave Blake a shock and he started to live in his hallucinations, in his dreams with Jess. now it makes sense right? waiting for trials!

The game is nice enough, but * SPOILERS * I dislike the payoff. Sure we are in a horror setting, but unless I misunderstand things, absolutely no one survives this other crazy experiment with the towers ? I wouldn't go as far as to say it makes the story kinda pointless, but as a player, surviving this much crazyness just to die at the end because Plot would be frustrating. Was anything accomplished ? Doesn't feel so. It reminds me of Stasis' ending. Well, Thanks for the videos anyway.

Thankfully he does not die at the end, he just goes crazy. I think that fits the theme of (failed) redemption that the story was going for, though I do agree that the execution could be better. They have great ideas, but the execution isn't ever quite there at the end. I do think it's slightly better than the ending of the first Outlast. Whistleblower probably had the best ending, making it very bittersweet. It also helped to improve the ending of the main game.

When he’s on the scaffolding and the camera is off it looks like he’s at the asylum from game 1. Like despite the blood it looks similar to the first scene where Miles is scaling the side of the building.
@Neopolitan_Illusion5 жыл бұрын
I'm actually thinking that Blake is Billy from Outlast 1 and he's done attempts to escape the asylum. Outlast 2 is merely the exploration of his psyche, "all the horrors the patient had to endure." Im not sure if he's lived all these experiences or he's just created his own reality.

I'm surprised that I am not seeing comments about the ending. I guess I will just comment this here to clear things up for anyone that didn't understand.Supposedly, in outlast two one of the things that the psycho-engine thingy was supposed to be able to do was extreme hypnotization. When Lynn gave birth at the end of outlast 2 it was not real, hence why she said, "there's nothing there". She was actually bleeding out and that is why she died. If you look carefully at the shadow of Ethan holding the "baby" when he shows it to Lynn, its a pretty good head trip lol. Ethan himself was already exposed to the psycho therapy multiple times throughout the game and also believed it because Lynn believed it (and he was coming more and more unhinged as time went on.) All of the light explosions that we witness throughout outlast 2 was Murkoff using the community in that mountain range as lab rats in their experiment. At the scene before where you ride the raft across the lake there is a power station/comm tower, presumably where they were watching the population from. The explosion at the end of outlast 2 is the Murkoff corp covering their liabilities and erasing evidence. Just looking at everything as a whole, I would say that outlast 2 is a prequel to outlast one and its dlc.
@kittaylor57526 жыл бұрын
Almost. Outlast 2 is set after the first game though. At the end the Walrider destroys the towers which is why Sullivan Knoth proclaims 'God has gone silent'. By this point Blake has already gone quite insane. In the Murkoff Account Blake is discovered in an alive but catatonic state.
@laurajyn19905 жыл бұрын
@@kittaylor5752 but the wall rider wasnt in this game so that's a bit confusing
@kittaylor57525 жыл бұрын
@@laurajyn1990 Agreed. It is confusing. I for one, was not following any of the Outlast material besides the games, like many people I would assume. But in the comics they released it shows the Walrider possessing a colony of ants that sort of eat the radio towers, thus ceasing the mind control over Temple Gate. It would have been nice to get some of that info in the game itself but there ya go. Hopefully Outlast 3 won''t be so vague.

I was really kind of expecting an Outlast 1 tie in, at first something minor like the company logo of Murkoff but eventually my ideas got more and more absurd. In the end I was expecting both Blake and Lynn to die then see the new Walrider show up, pick up the baby like "I shall raise you as my own child!", and leave. Sometimes I swear you can see an M like shape flash in the static of the school videos but that's about it.
@Tokski7 жыл бұрын
i may not be sure but the ending must be the sun's supernova explosion leading to the world's end, thus ending the lives of Blake and the child ..
@sneakyreaper3917 жыл бұрын
Tokski De Castro no in the end blake loses his mind because those white flashes early on were EMPS caused by a station that was made by Murkoff from the first game

Ah well, this was a lot to take in. Might make some bullet points XD -The birth was less gruesome than I thought it would be -You missed a bunch of the video clips v.v -This was some crazy cultist paranormal stuff that idk how to wrap my head around -Blake is clearly a superhuman to survive all that and not sustain any bacterial infections or just died like a normal person would -This was a bit more terryfying and horrific than the first Outlast but equally as heartpounding and exticing.

I don't get it, if blake can use the bandage to tape up his cruficix hands and climbed like as if it was nothing, He could have used it to tape Lynn's entry hole from excessive bleeding and she will live. I am sure there are many questions to the game...

Outlast was incredibly disappointing. It didn't work very well as a survival horror game or even a functional game. -too many jump scares -too many chase sequences -Blake was too annoying and lacked any sort of development. -the game is too much of a fetch quest. Activate this amount of generators, get this specific item, do this specific task, etc. Do all those while you are being hunted. -The pacing of the game is very static. It never bothers to change its pace from the horrific atmosphere for even a few seconds, which once again leads to repetitive gameplay. This is something that Resident Evil does well because of its save rooms. The only time Outlast 2 even tries to change the pace is when you are taken in by the only sane villager who is the father of the pregnant woman that Blake and Lynn were investigating. That moment gave a place of safety for the player for just a few moments before it was taken away by Marta. The problem with it is it is introduced too early in the game that it feels like it was just placed there. -You cannot use the environment against the enemies. You can't throw an object to distract the enemies and, therefore, make the Stealth more reliable, and there is never a moment where Blake is forced to think tactically or fight back. What if one of the enemies has a key and Blake is trapped in the same room as them with no possible way to escape? He has to think tactically and use his environment to fight back. A great example of this is The Last of Us. Ellie was forced to think tactically and use her environment to get the drop on David and get the key off him. Those kind of moments can add tension and it's a different way to build tension that breaks the cycle of repetitiveness. That is one of the things I find stupid about the "you can't fight back rule"; the developers make it so that no such section exists and instead, reuse the same formula over and over again ad nauseum. Outlast 2 fails to balance the survival and the horror aspects and leans more towards the horror aspect to the point of it being a simulation where you can die. At the end of a horror game, you're supposed to feel like you conquered the nightmare, instead, in Outlast and Outlast 2, something else conquers the nightmare for you. At least in Resident Evil 7, there was a moment where Ethan used his environment by using a crowbar that was part of the ship to fight back against Mia in the bad ending, which was refreshing to see. -the characters are forgettable and have no kind of development. We don't see Lynn for most of the game, Father Knoth is only seen twice for the full game and he was the one who started the cult, the Scalled are simply in one chapter but are then cast aside, Val's fate is not witnessed by the player, and Marta is killed in the most contrived deus ex machina ever. An imposing character like Marta is gone in the blink of an eye. -Blake gets so many lucky passes that enable him to escape danger in some of the dumbest of ways, like when Nick and Laird bury you with what seems like 6 inches of dirt and when those rocks in the mines fall to kill the two heretics who grab onto you. -the ending was flat and didn't feel satisfactory, just like Outlast 1. Outlast: Whistleblower did better, so Outlast 2 probably ended like it did for an upcoming DLC; yet another failing -the enemies have phantom range on their hits, so they can hit you without touching you -the enemies can hit through the geometry. I had a moment where Marta hit me through a tree. -You clip on the tiniest of obstacles, like rocks, giving the enemy an unfair way to catch up to you. This is apparent in sections like running away from Val for the first time. If you hesitate for a second, you are dead. It's the same with Marta because she runs so fast. -there is no restart checkpoint feature. Instead, you have to either die or quit to the title menu to restart. Really, in today's generation of gaming, we still use such archaic design. At least Resident Evil knows how to make it appealing. It's these kind of issues that I have that make Outlast 2 too annoying and frustrating for me Overall, Outlast 2 is the most frustrating and annoying survival horror game to me.

After watching alot of both games. I've come to the conclusion that I don't like outlast. Not from a perspective of it not being a good horror experience (because it's really atmospheric) but more so that the storyline is just too absent from the whole game. Everything seems like a massive goose chase with constant redirection. You are not rewarded with any progression. It's just "get here" then " oh actually. Not here. But here instead. Go here" then "nope. Still not good enough. Go here instead". Then the story just finalized in the last few minutes. I'm aware alot of the story is in the readable text. But I feel this is a cheap cop out. So to summerize. Fantastic gameplay with no storyline. Which is sad because with the right storyline injection. This would have so much more going for it. (For any butthurt fans of the game. Remember this is my opinion and reading this didn't affect how much you like the game) 😁 if anyone is open to some sensible discussion on the game that would be interesting. Have a great day

@terraset39887 жыл бұрын
Things completely relate. The short version is that in the same way that he was unable to save Jessica from a christian sexual predator, he fears that he will be unable to save Lynn from a christian sexual predator. Sullivan Knoth probably reminds him a lot of Father Loutermilch in principle. The more messed up and desperate his quest to find Lynn gets, the more messed up and parnormal the school hallucinations/projections/phase shifts/memories/??? become until eventually the hallucinations and camera flickers are starting to appear in the present world as well. Such as the phantom encountered in the mines that runs at Blake, flickering in and out of existance the same way the first phanom encountred in teh school did. Making it ambiguous how much of the end time elements in the last quarter of the game, the raining blood for example, are real or just Blakes fear fueled hallucination. Culminating in him halucinating Lynns phantom baby. A baby that casts no shadow and mysteriously dissapears after he passes out, never crys again or shows any sign of even being there, unless I missed something. Elements of the present world intermingle with the hallucination as well, such as the many armed demon thing encountered in the school bearing at least a partial resemblance to the description of the angel described in Knoth's gospel. It's clear that what Blake experiences in one time influences his perception in the other. As for why, I have no idea. Some people are saying it's all because of Merkoff but that assumes this Outlast is based in the same universe as the first Outlast. I don't think the comms tower is enough evidence of that. Personally I just say that I don't have enough information to make any sort of decision.
