I find it funny that a person got a "strangely threatening aura" from a runway light.

The last object is a transformer, we had something similar at school, the coil is the primary, you can put different secondaries on the core, then a bar goes on top and clamped down It was for showing different effects of voltage and current in science physics class

The last item could be an engine magneto magnet, Remagnetiser. It would have to be fed with Direct Current to operate in that mode, and the magneto horseshoe magnet would be placed on top of the 2 side parts of the core. My best guess is, It could be a demonstration transformer, but in that case, it is lacking a secondary coil. It is also missing a top yoke, possibly retained by the clamps? The secondary winding coil could have more turns of fine wire for a higher voltage or fewer turns of larger diameter wire, to be a current transformer. If fed with Alternating Current, it could be a demagnetiser for some tool or other? A 'Growler' motor or dynamo armature tester, typically has a v block for the motor armature to locate into. Also a voltmeter to measure induced voltage in the armature windings. This is not one of the types i have seen.

The brush with wire handle is a fireplace grate cleaner. I have one for my fireplace. I purchased it at a local hardware store about 30 years a ago but have seen them for sale a couple years ago at a farmer supply store

2:04. It is a ignition screw starter. The screws that hold in a points type breaker is small and hard to install with out this tool.

Last one : The reddish brown part is a solenoid. The metal part is soft iron. Probably an old tripolar electromagnet... Without it's original casing. North in the middle and dual South on the sides.

It's an electromagnet. Many uses One is to hold objects for welding. Another is to magnetize tools.

One thing that comes to mind with that last item is a magneto charger. But the ones I've seen have always had two coils so I don't think that's what this is.

There are single coil. Smokstak has a pic of one that was a diy that parts of it look similar. But no cigar unless a lot of it is missing. When I first viewed this vid I thought antique battery jumper? Antique electromagnet? Your thought combined both. 8:28

Well, it looks like it could be a prop from a sci-fi movie and is some sort of sinister death ray ;) But it's pretty harmless, unless you look right into it close up. For years driving back from visiting my grandparents I knew we were close to home when I could see the airport beacon flashing alternate green and white. So it has nothing but good memories for me.

I believe the object at 1:37 is actually a bicycle tool used for building wheels with deep section rims called a nipple holder.
@xlerb2286
@xlerb2286 Жыл бұрын
Could be, we had one in the shop and used it for starting screws as mentioned. It worked well for that but no idea where that tool came from or whether that was what it was actually intended for. I'd forgotten all about it till watching the video. All that stuff sold at an auction years ago after Dad died.
@technovelo
@technovelo Жыл бұрын
@@xlerb2286 It wouldn't work on phillips screws, but it should grab a standard one just fine. When building wheels with deep rims it is invaluable as it keeps you from dropping nipples inside the rim.
@xlerb2286
@xlerb2286 Жыл бұрын
@@technovelo Oh, right, it only works on slotted screws, agreed. And even then only on smaller ones. If that were it's primary purpose it would be a poor tool. I wonder where the one we had ever came from. Dad had a lot of odd tools. I suppose it was maybe in a box of random tools and such he got at an auction sale or something similar. Certainly Dad never did anything with bicycle wheels but he was good at finding useful tools, even if they were technically for something else. I sure do miss him.

That is called a 'Growler'. Used to test car starter armatures for shorted windings. Take the starter apart and hold it across the magnet while you turns it. A shorted turn will make it Growl = rattle up and down at 60 Hertz. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growler_(electrical_device)
