Shaquille O'Neal is the most dominant big man of all time, but, he had one key flaw in his game. You see, he missed over 5000 free throws, and only made one 3 in his 19 year NBA career. Yet, he is still Top 10 in scoring all time in NBA history, ranked at number 9.
Join me as we explore Shaq's life, from how he fell in love with the game, the impact his father had on him, his time in Germany where he met LSU Coach Dale Brown, his final high school years in San Antonio, then to his time in the NBA. Initially with the Orlando Magic where he faced off against Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets in the NBA Finals, then his time with superstar teammate Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won 3 NBA titles in a row and 3 Finals MVPs and finally his time with Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat. + a quick recap of his time with Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers and his final year with legends Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics.
All music from Epidemic Sound.

There are some other "fake news". Like the Divac trade, or Kobe as an Alpha in 97,98. They traded away Divac because they wanted Shaq, not the opposite. Kobe was a substitute in his first two seasons. Far away from the alpha position.

For his time, Shaq was special. He was past his prime when the game evolved to primarily being a three point shooting affair, and his style of play was obsolete. I do think a prime Shaq in this day and age would still be a problem, but his lack of shooting would be exploited by opponents much more effectively than in times past. It is a hypothetical thing to say someone would or would not make it in today's game, but I think all greats of the sport would have found a way

@@longebane Rookie cards are highly sought after when in respect to legendary players because they tend to be very uncommon/rare. It was before they reached fame, so not nearly as many of those cards would've been sold. This rarity & attachment to the pre-fame era of a legend makes them very collectible.

If he could shoot the ball, he wouldn't be Shaq. What he did best was bull into people and dunk the ball, knowing that the officials wouldn't call the charge. Had he played in the era of Wilt Chamberlain, O'Neal would've fouled out before halftime more often than not. Admittedly, Shaq eventually developed some nice moves in the post and his shot repertoire expanded beyond the dunk, his range extending to 6-8 feet from the basket. But I can't think of a single NBA player in history whose "game" was more enabled by the officiating.

That was a great trade by Orlando. I’m ahuge Webber fan, he was a “buddy” in Ann Arbor, hung out with him at the gym, at home (we used to cook dinner for him and other Fab 5’ers) however it’s hard to pass up three first rounders + Penny. I don’t see how Webber and Shaq would have lead to a winning team back then.

We all witness that Shaq and Yao Ming can't shoot due to their height, especially their awkward athleticism away from the goal pole. It's usually hookshot and close dunk by using their body weight as strength against an opposing player. They majority tends to play the power forward position. I personally think that Tim Duncan was the best player there is compared to Shaq and Yao Ming in terms of playing the power forward position and close range shootings, which all others have failed doing so.

IMO, Shaq was lucky to be born in the time that he played in the NBA where today's 'do it all' game wasn't a thing. If he'd been in his prime today, he wouldn't even be a bench player. There is no room today for one-dimensional guys. Steph Curry is the new go-to archetype... you don't need to be big, but you need to have godly handles, good speed, and a great all-range shot.
