I just stumbled upon this video but a build quality review from a detailer is such a good combination! My detail guy knows my vehicle way better than I ever could 😊

Perfect timing. My wife said she wanted a Rivian today (surprised she even knew the brand!). This video gives me confidence that they stand behind their products enough to improve things they’re hearing from customers. Awesome.

If I were getting a Rivian in 2024 I would lease it. That way you can turn it in when the NACS charge port ones come out and get one of those. That might be time to buy.

Coleton's videos have helped me out tremendously as an R1S owner. With ocean cost interior, I purposely do not wear denim so seats don't wear. I do have a rear passenger door that is off a hair, but would never know how to look for this stuff if not for these videos. Btw, Coleton's video on how to keep your ocean coast interior looking new was a master class. Cheers to you!

I’ve had to have a door handle aligned, rear gate top and bottom were rubbing and now I noticed a rear door that is rubbing against the body when closing. I will say that they have been coming to my house to fix these items while I work and provided me two free tubes of touch up paint, so I’m not super upset about these things.

Thank you for the detailed video! This was really helpful and is making me more confident in keeping my R2 reservation. I picked Rivian over Tesla because of quality control and I hope Rivian continues to listen and focus on fixing issues.

Just reserved my future Rivian R2 Tesla nearly had be with their Model Y 0.99% financing. However after seeing the R2 release, the new internal EV drivetrain and the fact that they are also deploying their own supercharger network along with their stellar service/owner reviews. At this point I am super confident in Rivian as a company and will be also investing after seeing all the recent updates.

Agree with ocean coast steering wheel. I kind of liked the headliner in white. Ocean coast truck got totaled and went with the black. My car seats put a black mark on the seat. Didn’t try too hard to remove the mark though. Also I like the non black rugs on black mountain interior. Helps open the space a bit.

Is there a VIN range you would recommend avoiding for the T?

Great video Colton! Can you tell me how many millimeters would be an unacceptable panel gap, where you would request a repair? Thank you.

I've been very interested in this vehicle. Thank you so much for pointing out the build qualities. I will now know what to look for before my decision is made. Also, some of those gaps are alarming for a $100,000 car. How much to correct all those misalignments and sinking engine hood? Bless!

where do I get that gap stick?

I have a 2022 R1T and the quality on mine was amazing 30k miles and basically 0 issued. 😊
@robwalker45486 ай бұрын
I too wish they would just make the charging port a simple hinge spring loaded cover. It would reduce complexity and some wiring and motor to open it.
@rubena63887 ай бұрын
Totally Agree, would have loved ocean coast but not with light headliner!

Do you recommend using a coating on the interior seats, dash, door panels. Something like Gyeon LeatherShield?

Absolutely

6-7mm is a huge gap. 10mm is a grand canyon on most modern cars.
@fredricgrethel17176 ай бұрын
Better, but not there enough for the price. Gaps are not the only issue. They are an indicator for other problems. Plus the design makes these so expensive to repair. I love the brand. Hoping it will get even better soon.

Looks like this one is pretty new, but not what's being built right now. They are up to VIN range ending in 40,000+ now.

EV9 is much bigger than the R1S? Really? Maybe the 2nd row only, but besides that I'd give the size to the R1S. Especially w/ the MUCH larger Frunk.
@OutofSpecDetailing6 ай бұрын
Interior space in all 3 rows is much more spacious in EV9. R1S of course has much bigger frunk

only fanboys of certain EV company that starts with the letter T doesn't care about panel gap or build quality.
@kappatalism47607 ай бұрын
Any gap over 4mm is far below industry standard, if I spent more than 75k on a vehicle and saw any gap big enough to fit a pinky finger in I would be disappointed. A Toyota Corolla blows this thing away in panel fit

Thanks, but this is just one data point. Cannot make an accurate blanket statement saying 2024 build quality is better based off one... There are still plenty with issues. :(
@jeffs60907 ай бұрын
But soooo many people make blanket statements based off one or very few. Such as EVs all catch fire. Studies have shown that EVs catch fire much much less than ICE. 1500 per 100k vehicles for ICE versus 25 per 100k vehicles for EV. EV fires just get more press because they're newer, more difficult to extinguish, and a political push (from one side) to badmouth them.
@whodat91987 ай бұрын
Lol this example isn’t even good either. It would be considered a fail by normal standards. The rivian fanboyism is getting suspect on this channel. Would be nice if he credited automotive press for his new methodologies which is clearly who he is copying

Toss a rock at the windshield 🥲 they’re so brittle. Rivian needs to come up with better windshields for their R1 models

Your videos are WAY longer than they need to be. YT viewers have short attention spans. You could have made your point in a 15-20 minute video. I bailed 1/3 of the way through.
