While I find it cool tech wise, having an EV for long range is a PIA, I drive regularly from L.A. to El Paso(10 1/2 hours) a trip around 750 miles one way, I make 2 fuel stops, one in Quartzite for half a tank then in Lordsburg, and have enough fuel for a few days of driving when in EP. Total of maybe 30 minutes in fueling and restroom breaks. Checked out a few websites and the same trip would add a minimum of around 4 1/2 hours in charging, and it's not any cheaper to "fuel" up.

I am not spending 70k-130k for a vehicle and have to sweat about locations on chargers and then have to sit and wait for it to charge. 5 min at a gas station and I can get almost 400miles in my 2007 impala. While cost to operate is cheaper (at todays forced gas prices) it is not a fraction of my cost to run my impala. I want to see how people feel about the savings if they have to pay for a battery in these vehicles. Oh then wait till they start charging you a road tax to recover what they are not getting in tax at the pump.

THIS is the review I’ve been looking for. As someone who lives in Denver but regularly spends time in the mountains, knowing how it would do as far as range goes is extremely helpful. I wonder how much having a few extra people in the vehicle and a few hundred pounds of hunting or fishing gear would change the range? Say, 3 people and 300 lbs of gear, totaling around 800-1000 lbs of payload. Would a 15% reduction in range be safe to say, you think?

I always feel a major drawback is that you are bound to go certain ways when traveling. You have to go a route where there are chargers. So no long super rides through the back roads... And what sucks more is that if you run out of electricity, its not like you can take a can and go get some gas and bring back to fill up the tank.. But I guess there will be Electric Truck refilling services for such emergencies.. they come out and give you a charge for a nice hefty price.. :D

After watching this video all I can say is I'm sure glad my Tesla(s) came with the free unlimited supercharging option. I've always wondered what it costs to charge the EVs. With that said, the bulk of the time we're charging at home so still far cheaper than a gas powered vehicle in this regard.
@Olson2BW2 жыл бұрын
You may or may not see this, but to charge my Tesla Model Y on a Tesla Super charger from 30 miles of range to 315 miles of range cost me $12.18 in Centralia, WA. I think the price for charge is the same or close to the same in all of western Washington. I've never been charge more than $12.18 any time that I've charged my Tesla Model Y. Meanwhile in 2021 it cost about $45 to fill up our 2007 Toyota Prius and it cost us over $80 to fill up our 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The latter has a 4.7 liter V8 Hemi. I'm giving you 2021 prices because my wife drives those vehicles and I drove my Tesla Model Y so I haven't filled up with gas on anything for over a year.
@beyerch2 жыл бұрын
@@Olson2BW I also have a data point now. I replaced my 2014 P85DL with a 2018 P100D which does not have free supercharging. I charged in ~Chicago, IL and added 23kw, price was $9.89. If I needed a full charge, I'd be pushing ~$40 which is about 2/3rds the cost to fill our Hyundai SUV. While it is cheaper to 'fill' up the EV, the realized range isn't nearly what I'd get in the gas car; therefore, I would need to charge again which would negate the savings. Will use the MX w/ Free SC for our road trips.

for sure. Before the gas prices went crazy the end of last year and this year, in my Dodge Durango I could go 500 miles give or take 10-15 miles with 87 gas grade costing about $70 bucks. With my discount I could get it as low as $50 bucks. $33 dollars going only 225 miles is not something I want to hear if I am going to switch over to electric. I am guessing it's not like that when you charge it in your house if you get a custom charging made? I am already annoyed that a lot of these cars can't go super long on a charge. Hopefully in a few years they figure out a way to get more miles. I know the lucid is saying they can go 500 miles, but at that price tag I am out lol Edit: sheesh I just realized he saved $13 bucks because of his membership. Would be even crazier without the membership.

@@LegendaryOldwarrior I hear ya. My diesel truck gets about 28 MPG at 75-77 MPH giving me around 550-600 miles on the tank. I really hate that people always comment on the range of electric vehicles. The more people buy them, the more the company will invest on creating more refined and long range tech. But it's probably the same thing when the first cars were invented, they would break down constantly and were unreliable, so I would think people would say "my horse can go for miles, why would anyone buy a car?" lmao. It's funny but people love to hate on new things, and people not adopting something is literally the reason something doesn't get better faster. Lol, it took 130 years for us to get where we are with standard ICE cars. EV's will get there eventually as well :P

If anything a Hybrid is where it’s at especially when a lot of them get 600+ miles a tank…I’ll take the 5min fuel up in a gasser or hybrid over hours of charging. We just did a 3000 mile road trip and if we had to charge during that route(which was the fastest route) it would’ve taken an extra atleast 15 hours which would have meant atleast one added on night in a hotel 🤢

Based on the charging cost, you would have paid about $42.80 if you charged from 0% to 100%. If compared to an F-150's EPA rated 22 mpg, that would have been like paying $3.10 a gallon. During cheap gasoline times that would be a lot, but now with average US prices at over $4.00 a gallon, that is a bit of savings.

Can you explain "manual driving with adaptive cruise control"? I have a RAV4 Hybrid that with adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist allows me to take my hands of the wheel for up to 15 secs and will automatically steer to keep me in the right lane and accelerate/decelerate depending on the car in front. So all I need to do (unless I want to overtake) is nudge the steering wheel and the car (almost) drives itself. Is that what the Rivian will do?
