Kyle is in California with the 2022 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition and the GT non-PE. In this video Kyle walks you through some of the upgrades the GT has over the normal Mach-E 4X and then he takes you on some canyon roads to feel the difference! We'll of course dive deeper into this car when we are able to test one over a normal week-long loan.

Please Do Not Stop On Twisty Mountain Roads! Another car reviewer coming around a corner only to get surprised by you stopped in the middle of the road in the middle of a blind turn is a problem. Even when you pulled to the side of the road, you were significantly still in the road. We all have an obligation to the safety of ourselves and others when testing on public roads. I can’t stand regulations, I much prefer self monitoring but for that to work, everyone needs to be processing awareness outside of themselves. Love the review and the real world evaluation! I just ordered a GT, and actually chose *not* to go with the Performance Edition. I did want the Magnaride, but the racing seats were too, say, narrow for my family, I didn't want summer tires, and won't ever take it to a track (and Long Island lacks canyons). Ford didn't give the suspension alone as an option, and the package cost was too high for options I *really* didn't want. I want a sporty car, but not a sports car given how and where I drive. I'm confident that the base GT will be a good choice. Thanks for your review!

Wow, small world. I also ordered the non -performance version, for similar reasons as you mentioned except I didn’t want the MagneRide suspension- with no evidence to support this just a hunch I felt like it was more likely to break than a standard suspension and more expensive to repair. As I’m not racing around a track or taking quick turns regularly I didn’t think it was needed. I do love the wheels on Performance much better.

It's too bad they didn't include the glass roof on the GT performance by default. To add the glass roof it's $1500, and you have to get the co-pilot 360 for an additional $1900. That puts this at $1k cheaper than the model Y performance after full tax credit. Maybe it's worth it to some people, but with that thermal issue.. eh... It would be great if Ford offered a package on the other trims to add the wider wheels and better suspension.

Fantastic review as always. Glad to see they made improvements. I do wish though that they would do some improvements on the lower trim cars. Just watching the rear end bobble around and bounce almost made me car sick watching the video. No vehicle should behave that way. Seems like just a different damper setting would fix it. They might have to go heavier on the dampening. But that would be better than it jumping around like that. Really glad to see significant improvements and that they know that they need to make improvements. It's a really cool car.

Big thing is going to be over 60mph power. Polestar 2 awd traps 113 the mache e gt traps like 100 flat somehow. So highway passing power is going to be significantly slower. Got a feeling the polestar will out handle it as well due to weight and the olins dampers on the performance pack.

Spending $65k-70k on the GTPE might be overkill for you. The Magneride is great but you'll have to pony up (pun intended) to get it since it's only on the GTPE.

The Y is way faster after 60mph. Ford is trying to hide the fact that the Mach-E GT loses steam badly on the top end due to poor design decisions.

@CorgiAndKeebs

in these types of spirited runs, no, Tesla's cooling system has no issue since they do a better job in routing the coolant lines through the powertrain and battery. The only time they put you in granny mode is at a road course and that can take 2-3 laps before the car puts you in granny mode. The Mach-E GT and GTPE, you can barely get one 0-60 run in before granny mode takes over, so 4 seconds of fun. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this design flaw that limits the amount of fun you can have in the GT & GTPE. You have to set it to Unbridled Extend, which lowers total power output, to have any fun in the car. On the Model Y Performance, you either have Chill or Sport mode and in Sport mode, you can mash the throttle multiple times with no issues, or go to the drag strip and do 10-20+ runs over and over without any concerns of the battery management system throttling back power delivery. This is probably also why the Mach-E, in colder temps, doesn't do as well for preconditioning the battery to warm it up for L3/fast charging. The coolant lines just aren't setup properly to cool the Stator motors and the battery pack.

@@CorgiAndKeebs it's not the vehicle level cooling system, it's the motor design which is different
@CorgiAndKeebs
@CorgiAndKeebs 2 жыл бұрын
@@ProfessorHamer It has nothing to do with the dual permanent magnet motors and has to do with how the cooling system, or lack of, results in the Ford battery management system going into granny mode. If you watch the Munroe teardown videos you can see the configuration. the Model 3 and Y use a permanent rear magnet motor an an induction motor in the front. The front induction motor generates more wasted heat but yet Tesla has no issues cooling both motors and the battery pack.

I have both Y and GT. Tesla is way ahead of software and ease of charging. GT has more car like feel and at least exterior quality is better. Interior I would give to Tesla.. No hard plastic inside compared to Ford. After driving both for about 2 weeks I would get Tesla. GT phone as a key still not working....too many software bugs but fixable in the future hopefully. Tesla phone control software is far more superior too. If you looking for easy daily living get a Tesla. Superchargers is a major plus too. On my second day of ownership I road trip 800 miles and charging availability is major plus.

Great first drive! Do you think the magneride suspension would bring better driving dynamics to the Premium for those looking for a fun driver, but not looking to go to autocross events and fly down canyon roads like you were? I don't recall feeling like it was necessary when I test drove a Premium AWD Extended Range, but without experiencing it, it's difficult to judge its effect, and its value. If the suspension from the GT-PE was a $2k option in the Premium, would it be a nice-to-have or a no-brainer? I guess I'm hoping that the magneride will become an option package some day, or I can finally compare them to put the issue to rest!

I can only provide personal experience giving a ICE Mustang as reference...but Magneride vs without Magneride is night and day. Soft and smooth when it needs to be but can instantly switch to stiff and grippy. It's black magic almost. It's something that in theory you could add as an aftermarket to an ICE Mustang...but its waaay more expensive and quite a bit of work.

@@ericpost6277 Thanks for the first-hand reference! My 96 GT has a pretty rough ride, and it's frankly the worst aspect of the car. If I get a new one, I'd want to add the Magneride suspension, just based on the ability to fine-tune the ride quality. The Mach-E wasn't bad from what I recall, but it would be nice to see some of the options from the GT/GT-PE trickle down into the Premium, so at least there would be an option if one wanted it.

I am not a performance oriented driver and I admit that this aspect of Kyles reviews of the Mach-e really frustrate me. He spends a lot of time harping on stuff that doesn’t really apply to most drivers and he’s the only reviewer I’ve seen complain about this “illusion of speed” thing. I understand the name and some of the stylings suggest sports car but there’s also gotta be space for people who want a good quality Tesla alternative. Like I just want a fun ev that I can afford. Tesla keeps hiking the price on the model 3 and they don’t get the tax credit. Kyle LOVES the id4 but it’s pretty boring and he knows it. I guess it just bothers me that he treats the id4 like perfection but then clearly grades the mach-e on this weird curve.

The Mach e clearly targets the sports car drivers. So it should be measured against it. This is a 70k cat. ID4 does not and they should not target sports car drivers. It doesn’t look like one either. Even though the AWD drives darn sporty.
@TrAnMu
@TrAnMu 2 жыл бұрын
@@openmind6969 Well given that Ford has two real EVs at the moment, this car cannot only be targeting sports car drivers. To be fair I’m kinda roping in this review with the review of the non GT models. Which are decidedly not targeting sports car drivers. In the same way that the model y isn’t. The Select/Premium/CA Rt1 Mach-E’s are targeting the Model Y (non performance) hence the price points. I imagine you’ll see an EV that actually targets sports car drivers in the coming years akin to the Model S and this point will be even more obvious. This is sporty crossover SUV. It’s just a fun person/gear hauler.
