Just watched your video. Let Alyssa know, you don’t need the key to remain in the vehicle if you want to leave the HVAC System running. You simply, get out the vehicle without Turing it off and lock it. The vehicle is locked and the HVAC will remain running for 30 minutes. You can disable the 30 minute auto off feature as well through settings. If someone were to break into the vehicle while it’s running and the key isn’t present, they wouldn’t be allowed to put it into gear. Even if it was unlocked, no key present, no shifting gears. Owners of Mach-E use this technique for camping, looks like it’s working pretty good. I agree, it’s much simpler in the Tesla, but there’s an option in the Mach-E.

My bestie's Mach-E had that junction box failure and left him stranded. Ford didn't have a rental so he went and rented a Model Y from Hertz...He ordered a Model Y to trade in in his Mach-E for a Model Y as soon as he got his Mach-E back. He had various other small issues with his Mach-E that was just made more annoying by having to deal with Ford's dealerships. Ford would constantly tell him the ONE technician certified would always be out when he needed to get service done. Not that Tesla service is anything to write home about, but at least Tesla knows how to service their own EVs.

Exactly! Dealerships. They are the problem with vehicle ownership across the board! It doesn't matter what you have, the dealership makes owning a car horrible. The majority of the sales force doesn't know much about their product. They can be selling paperclips for all they care. And there's service departments that aren't properly trained either. I've had my Mach E GT for about 18 months now and, while is absolutely the best car and my favorite car that I've ever owned or routinely driven in my nearly 30 years as a driver, there are definitely areas for Ford to improve upon, which you covered. When I bought my mach-e, the price difference between it and Tesla wasn't so dramatic, but I would have gone with Mach E anyway. I much preferred the fact that the Mach E had more physical buttons, and I preferred the mach E's screens. It is also much more attractive to me. While I am not a Tesla fanboy, they obviously have more experience as an only EV manufacturer and appear to have better technology throughout their cars. The continual comparison to Tesla confirms that Tesla sets the standard. Price is also a very fair concern. Why would I buy a Ford at a $10k premium when I can buy a technologically superior Tesla for less? Ford has a way to go, but they have good leadership, and most of what you criticized here is fixable, so there are no overwhelming issues facing them. Just listening to this and your comment about the cool handles and how well door opening Works… My Mach-E has been in the shop for one month because a PCB controlling the opening (seems there is one by door) in the rear passenger door shorted out and burned itself after a charge cycle on my home level 2 charger. I agree with Alyssa, a version of Tesla's Dog Mode is really required. And to add to what Kyle was saying, there should be a "Leave Climate Running" switch when exiting the vehicle. While our 2021 ID4 doesn't have a "Dog Mode", it does have the ability to set departure time climate and charging AND a switch comes up on the display when exiting the car called "Immediate Climate" to keep the A/C running if you hop out for a few minutes. I have this exact car but a 22’. Pretty much agree with most everything but a couple exceptions and additions to improvements. My roads in Arkansas are pretty good so I really don’t find the suspension to be as much of an issue and I push it pretty hard on some winding roads. Love the interior, sound system, and build quality. Everything feels good in the vehicle. Biggest plus for many customers like me (in a more rural area) is I have a local Ford dealer for service. If I bought a Y I’d have to go 250-300 miles away to get to a service center. That played a factor in my decision. IMPROVEMENTS: My app hasn’t worked correctly for 9 MONTHS (since I bought the car) and Ford still can’t get plug and charge to work with my car! It’s been escalated 5 times and still nothing, so that’s not good. The app and the UI is missing so much info EV drivers want to know. The Y has the big advantage of the charging network right now, but on a daily basis, if you want to look at your car and feel satisfaction or you don’t like the minimalist interior and want a few knobs and buttons for quick adjustments, it might not meet your needs. Hopefully when Ford’s GE2 platform replaces the GE1 platform under the MachE many of these issues will be resolved. Unfortunately that isn’t coming until 2025, at the earliest. And then it will initially be for Explorer/Aviator/3-row SUVs. Next generation MachE isn’t likely before 2026. With GE1 production costs so high the MachE sales will continue to fall until then. Going with the MachE was a great move initially but they are just moving too slow. The next few years will likely be rough for them, especially outside the US. Hopefully the GE2 & TE/T3 platforms are well designed and significantly lower cost to build. They can’t afford any more self inflicted wounds.

Tesla will have their next-gen “un-boxed” platform for smaller vehicles by then. The 3/Y prices won’t go too much lower. As costs go down they will take larger margins instead. But by the time MachE and their larger vehicles are getting closer to price competitiveness Tesla will be going after their high volume Escape/Kuga & F-Series. The most concerning aspect of buying a Mustang Mach E for me is that the manufacturer, Ford Model E, is not producing the car at a profit. That fact is a huge yellow, if not a red, flag, and here's why I say that. I bought a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that was not profitably being produced by the manufacturer, Hyundai, from 2016 to 2021 when it was discontinued. With just 17,000 miles on the odometer, and still under full warranty, the Li-ion battery failed. My car has been at a dealer service center for more than 6 months waiting for a new battery. I still have no idea when the car will be repaired and returned to me. If you buy an EV that is not being built profitably, there's a chance that support and service for the car will slacken or disappear altogether.

My daughter and I, did a zero to sixty demo drive at the New York Auto show. It was a sick experience, In a good way. My daughter loves the car, and so do I. It is just too expensive compared to the Tesla model Y and 3. Pricing and value for what you are paying is the driving factor in the EV market right now. There is an imbalance in pricing between Tesla and everyone else.
@Kangenpower7 Жыл бұрын
I think part of that is that the dealership keeps about 18% of the MSRP for themselves, and Ford is only getting $45,000 when the retail MSRP is $60,000. So Ford need to put the MSRP sky high for Ford to make any profit. Tesla has their own dealership network, or customer pick up locations, so they pay the electric bill, rent the building, and little else. Pay the employees. So Tesla can deliver the cars and spend less than $5,000 per car delivery. That allows Tesla to have a MSRP about $10,000 just because the Ford dealership is making about $15,000 on each Mustang they sell! Yes even the gas ones.

Really good video Kyle. We’ve had ours (AWD ER Premium) for over a year now. You’ve hit on all the biggest problems, IMO: HVJB is a hanging knife, ICE combustion mindset with the software and the car’s behavior, and the price is just not competitive with what the Model Y sits at right now. I will say, it’s got amazing range for the class, it has great storage, and it’s the best looking crossover in this segment. But “Gen 1” is such an accurate way to classify the issues it has. Whenever they refresh this car, HVJB issues will be gone, suspension will be better, tires will be larger, charge curve will be higher and more consistent and over NACS, and it will be hugely competitive in this segment. Thanks for this video!

Mine died 2 months into ownership and left me stranded. It definitely needs better dampers especially on the Premium for the price. And owners have been begging for dog mode for years...Ford IS working on it but embarrassing how long its taking them, coming up on the 4th model year soon and still not here. Also, the car constantly forgets your radio presets...happens to almost ALL owners for all 3 model years. Maddening. I agree with some of your points. Some things can be tuned with Forscan (honk when closing the turned on vehicle, lights on remote start, etc). When you turned of the honking, you can also turn off the power down timer (30 minutes), lock the vehicle with the key from the outside and the vehicle keeps running. Used this already a lot of time when on vacation. My biggest complaint are actually the OTA updates in Europe. They really suck. My Job 1.5 (MY21) received the Power Up 3 last week. After 9 months without any update. It was more than 20 updates behind the US version. My car lease runs out in November next year. I'm not sure if I will ever see Power Up 4, if Ford keeps updating with that "pace". Actually in Europe we have a button on the key for opening the frunk. This button still does not work for my vehicle. The second thing which annoys me is the lack of charging information and also that there is no way to set a permanent charge limit. Other than that the vehicle looks nice, I like driving around with it, but (as you said) it is way too expensive for the given features. The charging curve is okay for me, I mean Ford was not hiding anything in the specs that the vehicle takes 45 minutes to 80%. One thing that the Mach-E has that Tesla still hasn’t grasped (and may only do so once the EU cracks down on them) Tactile controls for basic functions. Try and turn on the wipers (especially in the refreshed model 3) A basic function like that should not be something that you have to “guesstimate” where it is

As a Mach E First Edition (Premium AWD) owner, I agree - the Mach E could use a price cut. A Mach E at $63k+ (or even ~$50k for a Premium AWD) is over-priced, just like most Tesla models. The EV6 and Ioniq 5/6 are better cars for similar money.

Preconditioning happens with preset departure times, without lights going on. I agree about the lack of a universal state of charge limit. As for the comparison with the Model Y, there are many differences between the two vehicles' driving experience that can account for *some* of the pricing differences.

Former Mach E owner (9 months) and current Model Y owner (10+ months). Mach E plusses: door handles are much easier to use. Wiper stalk with sensitivity control. Instrument cluster behind steering wheel. Better weekly schedule for preconditioning car (you can set schedule for different days of the week). Mach E issues: No quiet chirp option for locking doors. Rotary shifter is terrible design (it would be perfect if it was return to center and left was reverse, right was drive, and the middle button should be park). App only lets you precondition car for two 15-minute blocks, then you have to start the car (in the car) to reset this to get another two 15-minutes blocks. What Mach E and Model Y can use: cooled seats and heads-up display.

My wife bought her 2023 Mach-E RWD Standard Range this past March. Kyle I concurr that Ford needs to provide a in-vehicle "Charge-Now!" button via software update. As I type these words, the Mach-E is charging (you have to use the app ro force a charge off schedule) on our JuiceBox. The first time I went to charge at home, I thought I was an idiot becuase I could not figure out how to make the thing charge to "X" percentage manually. Once you set your preferred charging times (here in Tampa the cheapest rates are between 2300 to 0600 hours) the car will wait until that time (built-in intelligence can & will change the preferred times) to charge unless you force it to charge now via the app. My other compliant is that when charging, DC or AC, kWs input is not indicated inside the vehicle or via the app. It just shows miles gained, which in my opinion too dependant to be useful. I also agree that the standard rear suspension needs to be toned down. Of course these are First World gripes and as a first attempt I think Ford did a good job. Your other suggestions about creature comforts would also be great items for Ford to implement.

I own the Mock-E GT Performance and absolutely love it. There's always room for improvements, but overall, this is a great vehicle. It's my understanding that Ford already has a built-in battery charge limit set by the factory so we get 100% on the gauge but in reality we don't charge to 100% as there is a buffer built in the software. I could be wrong but I am fairly confident that we can't ruin the batteries by charging to 100%. That's why they don't have adjustable charging limits.

You nailed it in the beginning, the biggest issue is the price. But it's not just as simple as lowering the MSRP because they already lose a lot of money on them. A couple of things besides the looks that the Mach-e offers and the Tesla does not. I like having a driver info screen in the Mach-e that's directly in front of the driver. Also, the Mach-e supports Apple CarPlay which in MHO is a deal breaker for the Tesla. One change I'd like to see is a subjective one and one that would require a re-design of the dash. There are many threads all over the forums on the terrible suspension. It seems like there is also a lack of travel in the suspension and a lot of friction/resistance due to the type of bushings used. The ride gets scary if the bumps are timed the right way with some crazy oscillations. I think this is the number one flaw of the car and until ford fixes the bouncy suspension, they are going to have trouble selling these. It’s the number one flaw of the car in my opinion

Overall, a pretty fair video critique. Many of your criticisms could be solved in software, so here's hoping that they will be resolved in future software updates. One big omission that you don't mention is the lack of charging speed information on the displays. When Fords start using the display-less Tesla Superchargers, such information is going to be more important, so I'm hoping that it will finally force them to add this instead of yet another game. Speaking of charging, the charging speed may not be as big an issue as you make it simply because most people don't travel more than the range of the vehicle on a regular basis. I'm sure it's a factor on road trips of hundreds of miles, but the fact remains that very few people do that on a regular basis. Would it be nice to charge quickly when traveling across two states? Sure, but do I need that weekly? No. Neither do most people I know. Commuting and errand-running are much more common than cross-country road trips. Couldn't the double-honk on exit be avoided and the climate issue you mention be addressed if you hit the on/off button, and then hit it once without having a foot on the brake pedal? That puts our Explorer into an Accessory mode, which might be what you're looking for. Given the extra cost of the extended range battery, do you think it's worth it in order to get those extra 64 miles of range? If you really only should be charging the extended range battery to 80% regularly, that's 232 miles of range. If you can charge the LFP standard range battery to 100% regularly, that's 226 miles. Awfully close for $7000 extra... (or am I getting something wrong?)

I had a 2020 Model Y for two years and traded it in for a 2021 mach E Extended Range AWD Premium and actually like it better for the following reasons: 1) the MME has real blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert, the MY does not. 2) The MME has a much smoother ride than that of my MY with 20 wheels which made it excruciating and 3) the MY windows would freeze shut with just a little bit of frozen rain which would cause the door not to close since it is a frameless window. But the MY did have a heat pump that made it more efficient in the winter. But using the MME for vacations is difficult since there are very few fast chargers in the hills of northern New England and at the beaches in southern New England. NACS should make that easier.

It should always be present high up (or let us configure it). The 2 things is miss from my ICE Caddy XT4 is the mag ride as you mentioned as well as a Head Up Display.
