Sitting here with great interest…but not because of the new chargers…but because (as I work with a lot of Civil Engineers) of the pavement they chose here. @dRadddd Жыл бұрын
I’ve been noticing that in these European videos. Almost every location he has been to has had pavers (Porsche, the “perfect” facility, etc). I’ve loved seeing it and have wished we used pavers more here in the states. With the increase in poured concrete, maybe the cost differential is shifting?
@omelborpon3159 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps the power cables are laid under the pavers. If the power cables need to be repaired or upgraded, then pavers are much cheaper and easier to take up and reuse, as opposed to having to break up and relay poured concrete.

i do not know the regulation in NL but in germany you get charged for the amount of rainwater your facility is pouring in the sewage system of the community. so by using pavers that will let the water sip through into the ground and keeping the excess water on heavy rain on the site (like here where it looks like the lowest points are around the trees with soil around) you will reduce the running costs of the site and fill up the groundwater. such a system is of course not allowed on a gas station with all the risk of spilling oil and gas. another bonus factor of e-mobility

Interesting look at a charger in my home country. And not far from where I used to live too. But Best is VERY FAR outside Amsterdam, almost on the other side of the country 🙂 I wonder if they were planning to put in one more station but someone didn't make the slab big enough, and that's why one charger is still sitting there. The left side of each dispenser is lined up with the center of the parking spot because that's the side that the cable is hanging from, so the cable hangs at the center of the parking spot and can reach equally far on both sides of the vehicle. So the offset makes total sense to me.

Most sites are limited at the transformer. They usually size them at expected average utilization rather than peak to save cost. The GetGo by my house has 8 Tesla chargers but the transformer is 500 kVA.
@pepstein Жыл бұрын
Tesla could easily add more power with v3 cabinets by simply connecting fewer pedestals to each cabinet. For example, instead of 20 pedestals and 5 cabinets, they could do 21 pedestals with 7 cabinets, so each cabinet powers just 3 pedestals.
@pepstein Жыл бұрын
The dispensers appear to be offset just enough to put the static end of the cable right in the middle of the parking stall. This presumably makes them as ambidextrous as possible, meaning they reach ports equally well on both sides of the vehicle.

I’m kind of bummed by the title, I thought Kyle of all people was fairly consistent about calling these kinds of superchargers, 3.5 as the backend hardware has not been upgraded, assuming it ever will be. 360 kW available for four chargers is crazy that’s only 90 kW per unit and to call that a version three solution. I really don’t understand why all the fanfare for Tesla chargers. Reliability is important but having probably 180kW at best available once these places get busy and maybe closer to 90kW is a joke. People will go to Ionity or Fastned.
@graemeesmith Жыл бұрын
In practice it's not that bad. Cars taper off peak charging speed pretty quickly, especially 3 and Y. Those taper down to 150 kw by 45-50%, often. As battery packs get bigger these V3 stations will effectively get worse as other cars are holder higher power for longer and running into site limits.

Regards the power limit in V3 sites, we have a few single cabinet ones up here in Finland. And at times they have already gotten busy with all 4 stall occupied. End result can be only 80 instead of 250 kW, like I experience in Pello last summer with about 10% arrival and nice warmed up battery. When I arrived there was a fat e-Tron and Model S, and with me came a Model Y. So 80 kW it was, with bump up to 120 kW when one of the earlier arrivers left. No disaster but quite far from the advertised as well, especially since Tesla does not appear to be that transparent about this limitation (or I have missed their communication about it).

8:37 The dispensers look to be positioned so that the tethered end of the charging cable is in the center of the stall. That means that the cable will have equal reach on either side of the vehicle. If the dispenser was centered, the cable would reach farther one side than the other. This also has the side effect of preferring Tesla's charging port placement by making that the shortest distance from dispenser holster to charging port. Or maybe that's just where the old V3 dispensers were to reduce the amount of work in the site renovation? I don't think you mentioned if this was a new site or a refitted one.
