I don't see them releasing a sedan EV any time soon. Ford doesn't make a single sedan at all any more. The ICE Mustang is the only vehicle with a trunk - every other Ford or Lincoln vehicle is a pickup, van, SUV, or hatchback. Almost nobody makes true sedans any more, preferring "Crossovers" instead. (Which is just a fancy name for a station wagon with some "tough looking cladding".)

Things I’d love to see: 1 Range comparison: towing a camper and without. 2 Powering a camper from the bed 3 Time to charge and charging availability. Tow a camper 500 miles; analyze travel time required with charging considerations.

Biggest problem with the rivian I've heard is you can't move while the door is open which is a deal breaker for a rancher. Can you creep with door open on this truck? And can you get out and let it creep forward? (Useful for kicking hay off a trailer solo)

Car and driver tested the platinum version and got 4 seconds flat 0 to 60. The R1T is a mid-sized truck and it actually weighs more than the lightning. TFL has had there limited for several days they own that one

As a tesla owner since 2019, which I use full time for construction, first a 2013 model S, and now a 2022 Model 3 Performance, I can honestly say I like everything ford has done with this truck. Only way to change my opinion would be try the truck and see it’s shortcomings for myself (charging, software, etc). I would love to buy one, but it is truly the dealer experience that is keeping me away. Sad but true, hopefully something changes since Farley just stated Ford needs “online, direct to customer” sales option.

Unfortunately, it's US Laws that hamper Ford, not Ford's decisions. Tesla can't sell in certain states because of those US Laws. Essentially, to protect the dealer networks, there's a law that states manufactures cannot be in competition with dealerships...

Bring a hard user with a normal ICE F-150 as a test, who is doubtful and let him compare in real life. I see this one as a real game changer for real utilitarian user. The Rivian is a lifestyle pickup not comparable.

The truck actually lets you use the charge port to power your house. They have a charger for your home that is bidirectional.

Also, can you demonstrate using the bed and trailer camera while in motion? I drove a Pro over the weekend and I was able to use them at speed (about 40-45) but I want to see this in the 15" vertical screen. The pro has a hard button.

how do the backseats fold up? Do they split? My situation is 2 car seats and a great dane need to fit in the back, my current Ram 1500 backset splits 60/40 for the seat to fold up so I can have enough room to fit everyone.

Would love to see a few things, but it sounds like you're already planning on a few of them... *Good comparison to the Rivian R1T in terms of living with them, space, comfort, ease of use, etc... *If you do happen to get the base model, a good comparison between those as well... Why buy a 90k truck if the 40k one is just as good, etc... *Something like what you did with the ID4, Model Y, Mach-E, and Polestar Other than that, I'm just excited to see your normal suite of tests.

Curious about how easy it is to charge across different electric vendors? When charging at home with 220V what kind of mileage can you expect overnight? Its not winter so can't test cold weather affects on mileage but how about running AC for a long drive? Adding a payload of 1000-1500lbs in the bed and how much does that affect range and does it display the new range accurately on the computer on board? If you swap tires for more serious all terrain how much does that affect mileage? Lastly, when planning a trip how well does the system manage charging stops and if they are available and charging at a rate expected (displayed on ford's on board trip planning)? I would like to see a tow test with a camper across country. I can get 600 miles in my ICE F-150 in one day with one fuel stop with a 9,000 lbs camper. I am interested to see what it is like to stop and find a place to charge without unhooking the camper. How hard is it to find a charge spot with a trailer.

Would it be possible to put a 7kw load on the 240v plug and let that run the battery full to empty? My question is about the endurance of the inverter and if that 7.2kw number is a gimmick that lasts a few minutes.

10:10 I think it’s less Ford trying to make it symmetrical and more Ford using an existing design element that F-series trucks typically have incorporating a charger port into a side. Usually you see those big plastic design elements with the 350 and 250 badging on them.

I think you should try to replicate how this truck would be used on a normal workday by a contractor. Maybe pulling a bob cat on a trailer to a job site. Bringing construction materials to another site. That is what future owners need to see, whether it can hold up to a full day as a work truck, not doing the normal fun stuff you typically do. That is not the buying audience of a typical gas F-150

FYI, in order to test the intelligent back up power for the lightning, you need more than just the charge station pro. You also have to have a $4300 “Home Integration System” which is 3 parts: a bi-directional solar inverter, a “dark start battery” and a micro-grid device. These items are also back ordered and the one I have isn’t not expect to deliver until Sep. if this year.

What is home charging like? If I leave it plugged in over night daily how much can I expect to juice up and what kind of damage will that be to my electricity bill? We charge a SR+ M3, (0 to full in 7hrs) but these e-trucks have some honkin battery packs.

I believe your M3 has a 60kw battery. They said this truck has a 130kw battery. So, you can expect it to take a little more than twice as long to go from 0 to full.

I also have a Tesla Model 3 SR+ this truck is about half as efficient. So expect about 15 hours 0-full and a little more than double the added electricity cost to your bill.

For the Extended Range with the included 80 amp charger it will charge from 15% to 100% in 8 hours. As for cost, that all depends on the cost of electricity at your home, but it does have a 131 useable battery. So from 0-100 it’ll be a bit over 131 kWh. Multiply that by your rate and you’ll have the cost for a full charge. Assume 12¢/kWh and 135 kWh (4 kWh add for losses) and it would cost $16.20 for a full charge.

I believe both the R1T and the F150-L are both rated at 70 MPE. (70 miles for the equivalent power of 1 gallon of gasoline.)

Wondering how much the mileage goes down in sub freezing temps. I had a Honda Fit ev and it would drop substantially in the winter even with the heat off. Curious if ford has done anything to keep the battery warmer in the winter. I would say my battery in the winter went down 30-40%. In the summer I would get close to 100 miles but in the winter more like 60-65.

The EPA doesn't. The truck is out so it doesn't matter what they said pre release. It's been tested already. 320 miles in perfect weather on a flat surface.

Google for the charge curves. They're fairly comparable, the Rivian peaks slightly higher down lower, but the Ford holds over 100kW deeper in to the battery pack all the way up to 75% which is HUGE. Both are very livable.

Plus a towing range test with a couple different trailers. Heavy-but-aerodynamic, light-but-boxy, heavy-and-boxy. The combination of range drop when towing and charge time will be the deciding factor for me.

Does a fiberglass shell affect the range? Towing (range) a fiberglass bass boat with a dual axle 21 foot long boat? Also a smaller single axle boat 17 foot.

Range is more affected by aerodynamics than weight. Weight is a factor yes, but every single towable thing will behave differently. If you wanna get range estimate, figure out how much your fuel economy tanks by towing what you got. It is roughly the same with an electric truck. But you're looking at a 40% to 50% drop in range.

Rear shells/tonneaus that are the cab height or lower generally slightly improve efficiency due to improved aero. Raised shells taller than the cab will add air drag.
