My dad’s log from his old farm. We are excited to make some good projects from that great old black walnut tree. That was a big and old black walnut tree from above his old barn, before he sold the farm last year. It was a big old tree that you could tell was getting past its prime, and that we needed to do something with it before it was too late, the tree was actually starting to die off in parts. After it was brought down, we actually had to leave the log with the new farms owner for a year until he could get moved and figure out how to get it processed somehow. Admit I got a little misty-eyed seeing that and seeing the beautiful wood inside, and glad you got him in the video loading it in his truck too. Thank you so much!

What is it that fascinates us non woodworkers to watch a man sawing logs, I am an 82 year old bloke in England who cannot get enough of it as the beauty of those washed down planks appears before ones eyes. There is of course the added bonus of a timber man who really knows his timber and talks in a strange accent. Thanks for time you put into these videos.

Last year I was offered to go get "firewood" from tree's that had been taken down in a friend of a friends backyard. I get there and 5 LARGE maples had been taken down. Someone else had already taken all the limbs that were manageable in size. What was left were logs between 10-14 feet long and 24-48 inches wide. 15-20 logs. I told the man that I would be back that weekend with a tractor and trailer to pick them up. He just wanted them out of his yard as they were in the way to putting in a new septic field. I came back that Saturday with a tractor and trailer to get them. In the two days that it took me to get back there. The neighbor had the tree service guys cut them up into 18in widths. The homeowner wasn't aware of it until he got home. My suspicions were confirmed when I took a look at the logs.. Many/most of them were quilted maple. And I mean EXTREMELY QUILTED. To say I was horrified would be an understatement. That turned out to be the most high quality firewood I've ever burned in my wood stove. I about cried every time I put one on the splitter. You wouldn't believe the figuring that was in that wood. I can't even begin to guess what the market value of that wood would have been had it been sawn into lumber as I had intended to have done. Lesson learned. I ever come across something like that again. I'm going to make sure to put signs all over it and inform the neighbors to NOT TRY AND BE HELPFUL!!

Thanks for clarifying the “wind chimes” I am new to they channel and always wondered what they were. Also clarifying the measurements helped too!

I have noticed when you go to the burn pile there are always some fairly large loges in it, why don't you cut them for something. Also on the burn pile, when you're getting ready to lite it. is it like a community thing where all all the neighbors come over for the bon fire?

Beautiful Walnut slab, I like the long grain almost better than the crotch grain.

Aside from the gorgeous walnut log and the amusing outtakes, I REALLY love the music selection in this video! I know, I’ve heard at least one of those songs before in earlier videos, but the tunes here were consistently awesome, great playing, great vibes, and very well placed in the overall narrative. I know, this may be sort of beside the point to some, but for me it is an important part of what sets the mood on this channel, and makes me want to watch more. 😃👍🏻
