We all watched "I blew it" and sadly saw the RAF stories there it is the same with lotto winners when there is a large payout given to people with no financial management skills they are usually left worse off and 85% go broke in 5 years. I do not think scraping the RAF or minimizing the benefits is a solution but I am not opposed to them changing the payout model to pay out over time instead of a one time lump sum. And just one last thing that I have noticed is that south africa is very very welcoming to foreign nationals I am an African and believe in pan-Africanism but I am not blind to the fact that foreign nationals enjoy a plethora more benefits in our country than we do in theirs it is not wrong to say that these benefits should be reciprocated by other countries on the continent or else they need a serious and urgent review.

They need to start tightening the laws on drinking and driving....those lump sums were disturbing too....monthly payments yes I agree...yes people can't rely on one bread winner for the rest of their lives...I agree with the part of foreigners you cannot claim for anything in other countries...for the lawyers your greediness has come to an end

Fyi bud the lawyers only take 25% of the claim, and only up to R250k. So that's that I suppose.

Government closing on lawyers well and after that please cut RAF cost on fuel on per liter. RAF has been unsustainable, and lawyers have been feasting on this

Too much corruption in RAF. Our roads are treacherous and we need compensation, but what happens is the lawyers take most of the money. This money is from us the citizens so it's ours and we should have a tigher control and more transparency of it.

If a breadwinner is NOT injured on the roads and takes care of his family financially but then dies from a heart attack, the state is not liable to continue paying for his family... So why should the RAF be responsible for this is an accident victim later dies from an unrelated illness like a heart attack...

If I fill up 100L, that will equate to R218 worth of RAF tax at R2.18 p/l . The teller can now expect me to pay R218 less on the stated bill. Im not funding corruption and that R218 RAF fund that I am reclaiming will go towards the increase in the medical aid fund.

May I ask as to who in the real world gets knocked down by a car and still has enough sanity to identify the vehicle which knocked him or her down, let alone the person? Secondly, with regard to the exclusion of foreign nationals from RAF claims, what criteria during motor vehicle accidents is used to determine the injuries to be sustained by South Africans and those to be sustained by foreigners thereby making the latter ineligible for RAF claims? Thirdly, are South African roads marked and identified by nationality or are they open for use by everyone? If I can receive answers to the above questions I think I will be at peace. In the meantime however, I wish to submit that whoever came up with this proposal must have been high on Marijuana; popularly known as "Zol" in the Townships.
